I grew up in a part of Chicago where I wasn't free to go outside and play. Instead, I spent many childhood summers with my Nintendo Gamecube and Wii. I was not the only one, as there is now a huge grassroots scene for retro video-game tournaments. I started to compete in said tournaments in 2018. I describe my accomplishments below. If you ever want to play something, contact me for some games!

I am an active Mario Kart 64 player. I have won the local Someplace Else Brewery monthly VS mode tournament several times. Camp Kart 2024 was my first national tournament, where I placed 7th in VS mode.
My time trials sheet can be found here, where you can see my pure racing skills in a league of over 1600. My All Cups run can be found here, which shows my item skills are strong enough for a top 100 placement.
I also secured two wins at local Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournaments, though I am not as active in that community.
In 2023, the community ranked me 8th in Boulder, Colorado, for Super Smash Bros. Melee. My highest placement in a Boulder tournament was a second-place finish out of nine. At the regional Altitude Sickness, I placed 65th out of 227 players.
My Armada Number is at most 7. My local Trueskill ranking is here.
I used to compete in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments. While I had no breakout performances there, the experience helped me develop as a player.
Warming up for a game of SSBM
I am proud of these achievements, but none of them compare to finding community. The space has been nothing but welcoming to all kinds of people. I have met players from other cities, states, and even countries! I am fortunate to call a lot of these players my good friends. I hope that everybody finds a community like this in their life.
