Selected Student Evaluation Responses
Below are some of my favorite responses I have received on course evaluations.
ECO 411/511 (Miami University)
I never dreaded going to this class.
Dr. Flynn was very available to the students and welcomed questions always. He really showed us that he cared about us and our education.
Problem sets were well designed and Dr Flynn is very well prepared. He is very helpful if you have any questions so he made it a very valuable learning experience with his help and well prepared lectures.
This class was a very daunting subject but prof flynn made it very approachable and easy to understand (as easy as econometrics can be to understand)
The in-class coding experiences were the best part of class. I learned so many skills that I had only heard about in my previous econometrics courses.
Dr Flynn is clearly very passionate about teaching and econometrics, which definitely showed when he taught the course
Flynn is a great professor who is passionate about the topic and his students. He brought in a lot of real world examples that put econometrics into perspective. I feel much more confident in my ability to work in R, and I am already seeing this class pay off.
Genuinely awesome professor. I found a lot of value in the way that Dr Flynn teaches this class in intuitive AND technical ways.
Dr. Flynn was a great professor who showed concern for his students' learning. He was always available and made difficult content easy to follow.
This course was an excellent way to bridge the gap between the theory and the way that it is applied in the real world. It also made research seem a lot less daunting in general.
ECO 332 (Miami University)
Our professor had a great understanding of his students and the way we learned.
I could tell how enthusiastic Professor Flynn was about his teaching topics, which helped me stay engaged during classes.
Professor Flynn is very organized and prepared. From the beginning of the semester, the syllabus provided a list of readings and homework assignments and their respective due dates. It was also very easy to find his in-class slides. I appreciated this a lot.
The passion for the course was always represented during class, making it a lot more intriguing and valuable.
The professor clearly was enthusiastic about the content and presented course topics in engaging ways. Because of this, the lectures were enjoyable and I looked forward to class.
Professor Flynn was an excellent teacher and this was definitely one of my favorite econ classes that I've taken
The instructor knew his audience well and knew how to engage with them in a manner that everyone felt comfortable to speak up around him and engage in the course
Dr. Flynn's openness to questions and discussion during class was what was most valuable to me during the time in class.
I think that the energy Professor Flynn had in the class room led to a valuable learning experience
I was able to feel comfortable and ask any questions when i needed to.
Instructor is very passionate about the topic, able to break complicated concepts down into digestible explanations for students, cares about the students and their grades
Professor Flynn was fantastic and always made class interactive and a fun learning environment!
Professor Flynn tried to engage us in discussions when possible to help us understand the content. He also did a great job of providing real life examples and made the learning process fun when some of the content was a little dry.
ECON 1088 (University of Colorado Boulder)
I recommend him for a promotion.
He is a great teacher. Coming into the class I was positive I was going to drop it because I didn’t understand anything. Only a week later and Mr. Flynn had helped me to understand and start thinking for myself.
Professor Jim Flynn was one of the best teachers I have had on CU Boulder so far. He displays incredible amounts of humility, professionalism, thoughtfulness, and is always willing to help. This is not an easy subject to understand; he is great at breaking down problems and making it digestible. I cannot say enough kind things about him, he is an excellent teacher.
Jim has been so wonderful In teaching us. The class did really well as a whole. He really invigorated the passion for calculus. He related all points to how it can be applied to reality.
You are a really good teacher who can connect with students easily and convey information just as well.
