Slack Etiquette

Do Engage Actively: Use Slack for questions, check-ins, and discussions. Participate in conversations and respond to messages promptly; save emails for formal communications. 

Do Practice Respect and Inclusivity: Treat everyone with kindness and professionalism. Use appropriate language and be mindful of your tone, communicating with the presumption of good intentions from others.

Do Stay On Topic: Use channels for their intended purposes to keep discussions focused and relevant.

Do Use Direct Messages Wisely: For private conversations, opt for direct messages. Reserve channels for broader topics that everyone can benefit from.

Do Keep It Professional: Remember that Slack is a professional tool. Share content that aligns with College Track’s mission and your academic goals.

Do Share Resources: Use Slack to share helpful tips, resources, links, and information that can support your peers.

Do Report Issues: If you encounter any problems or inappropriate behavior, flag it and let a staff member know right away.

Do Practice Good Etiquette: Use @mentions thoughtfully and be considerate of others’ time.

Do Contact Assigned Staff: Reach out only to the College Track staff assigned to you; they will connect you to additional support if necessary.

Do Respect Others' Time: Be mindful of staff's normal working hours; do not expect immediate responses outside those hours.

Don’t Use Inappropriate Language: Avoid language that is disrespectful or offensive to others.

Don’t Engage In Bullying Or Harassment: Such behavior is strictly forbidden and may result in removal from College Track.

Don’t Spam The Channels: Avoid posting multiple messages in quick succession; consolidate your thoughts to keep conversations clear.

Don’t Ignore Notifications: Be mindful of your notifications and try to respond promptly to messages in accordance with Community Guidelines.

Don’t Ignore Channel Guidelines: Follow any specific rules or topics set for each channel to maintain organization.

Don’t Share Sensitive Information: Avoid discussing confidential information in public channels.

Don’t Use Slack For Emergencies: Reserve text messages for emergency situations only.

Don’t Reach Out to Other College Track Staff Directly: Your coach is your first point of contact.  They will facilitate outreach to Central Support staff when needed.

Don't Post Unrelated Content: Refrain from posting unrelated content, spam, or promotional material.
