Slack Channels

What are Channels?

In Slack, conversations take plance in dedicated spaces called channels. Think of channels as virtual rooms where you and your coach or your fellow CT scholars can collaborate on ideas, discuss topics, share resources or opportunities, or communicate within group or campus cohorts. By keeping everything organized, channels help everyone stay on topic, receive relevant support, and build connections across the College Thrive community efficiently.

Default Channels

General announcement channels; assigned to all College Thrive scholars and relevant College Track staff, only staff can post to these channels.

announcements-thrive: for College Track staff to share general updates.

announcements-cld-national: for Career & Life Design announcements nationwide related to career content

CLD Announcement Channels

Career & Life Design channels for career related content. You are added to local channels based on your high school site and current college or university; you may choose to join other regional channels at your discretion. Only staff can post to these channels.

announcements_cld_bay: for announcements relevant to the San Francisco Bay Area region.

announcements_cld_centralca: for announcements relevant to the Central California region.

announcements_cld_colorado: for announcements relevant to the Colorado region.

announcements_cld_dmv: for announcements relevant to the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.

announcements_cld_nola: for announcements relevant to the New Orleans region.

announcements_cld_sac: for announcements relevant to the Sacramento, California region.

announcements_cld_socal: for announcements relevant to the Southern California region.

Campus Channels

Campus-specific channels. Each campus with 10 or more College Track scholars has a dedicated campus channel. You are added to the campus channel if our record indicates you are enrolled at a campus with a campus channel. If you're not currently enrolled at a named campus, you may choose to join a campus channel at your discretion. They are used to share updates and events at the named campus.

campus-[college_name]: Public channel for scholars enrolled at the named college, e.g. campus-tulane, campus-uc_berkeley, campus-morgan_state_university, campus-university_of_denver.

Coach Caseload Channels

Private channels for College Thrive coaches and the scholars they support. Each channel has its own membership requirements.

coach-[coach_name]: Private channel for a College Thrive coach and all the scholars they support, e.g. coach_cierra_cryer for coach Cierra Cryer and Cierra's caseload of scholars. You are automaically added to this channel if you are supported by the named coach.

coach-[coach_name]_first_year: Private channel for a College Thrive coach and their caseload of 1st Year scholars, e.g. coach_cierra_cryer_first_year. You are automatically added this channel if you are supported by the named coach, and you are a Year 1 scholar.

coach-[coach_name]_final_year: Private channel for a College Thrive coach and their caseload of Final Year scholars, e.g. coach_cierra_cryer_final_year. This channel is by invitation only. Your coach will invite you to join this channel if you are in your final year of college.

Other Channels

Public or Private channels for College Thrive coaches and the scholars they support. Membership to these channels are managed by the staff in charge.

transfers: Public channel for College Thrive coaches and scholars who are planning to transfer or have already transferred. Non-transfer scholars are welcome to join if they choose to.

cde-scholars_[Year]: Private channel for Alumni Career and Life Design staff and Career Discovery Externship cohort scholars, based on cohort year.

Peer-mentor-advisors: Private channel for peer mentor advisors at the named campus.

young-women-of-color: Private channel for College Thrive coach and scholars enrolled in the Young Women of Color program.
