Collaboliers are University of Virginia research community members who provide vital support to our project through their voluntary participation. You can become a Collabolier by joining our project and attending a workshop retreat, where you will help us understand the people, practices, services, and tools in your research. Together, we will explore new ideas and opportunities that drive collaboration, and in return for your contribution of time and effort, we will create a new campus resource just for you--a School of Data Science Collaboratory!
We will conduct the data gathering phase of our project as facilitation sessions. These half-day workshops will be attended by cohort groups of 6-12 Collaboliers. We hope that you will continue to follow our work and stay engaged as the project matures over the next two years, so we have designed these sessions to be enjoyable and to provide value for you, too!
Introductions
We'll serve lunch and get to know our fellow Collaboliers.
Overview
We will introduce concepts, terms, organizing principles, and the tools and services that support collaboration between UVA researchers.
Guided Discussions
We will discuss survey questions and response data, as well as unstructured topics that are not addressed in the surveys. This session will explore and drill into specific collaboration practices, challenges, and opportunities at UVA. It is an important opportunity for you to voice your opinion about concerns and shortcomings raise persistent challenges you face in your own collaborative practice.
Co-Creation Session
We will apply the day's learnings and new relationships with colleagues to co-create a project concept that reflects your passions and expertise. This optional session will provide practical experience working through the assumptions, hurdles, requirements, and opportunities that are unique to interdisciplinary collaboration. Concept notes from these sessions will be featured on our website, and our project team will work with partners who want to continue developing their concepts.
Surveys
We will issue several short surveys that can be completed at any time, and which will allow participants to change their response at any time.
Breaks
We have scheduled several longer breaks throughout the day so that you can check in with all your devices, enjoy a snack, connect with other Collaboliers, or just catch some fresh air. Multiple work stations will be available for you to spread out, including private spaces for those who request it.
