The seniors continue their preparation for graduation
By Breon Barton
It’s the time of the year, where seniors already have to start thinking about graduation.
Seniors have got the chance to order their cap and gowns. Students get a chance to order their class rings if they didn’t already or buy senior apparel for the year. Balfour is the place where seniors can go to order senior items. The website has T-shirts, key chains, bags, socks, water bottles, and sweatshirts. This just goes to show that the year is flying by and before we know it the year will be over.

On Wednesday September 28th under the direction of principal Ryan Muhlig and Chief Richard Barrett, CHS held a practice crisis drill. After a fabricated announcement about a gas leak, the students and teachers walked to the event center to regroup. The entire premise was to practice a crisis in case we ever had a situation where we needed to evacuate the school. The school incorporated the Colby Police Department in order to make the drill feel real.
Everyone gathered in the big gym in the event center. Chief Barrett and Muhlig each spoke to the students and staff and were impressed by the way everyone involved walked to the Event Center and handled the situation.
Muhlig’s point was that the reason for these drills is to make sure we are safe, and how it's important to listen to the teachers. Additionally, it is important to be a leader to help others arrive safely.
Officer Barrett reiterated that point and that he saw some of the students from the school being leaders and helping other people get from the high school to the Event Center safely.

The students of Colby High School will be graduating soon, some in December and some in May. The students of Colby High School are getting ready to move on. Many seniors had opinions about their school and say that they are ready to graduate. However, some say they are not. Even though graduation may be scary and sad for many, people including their families, teachers, and maybe even some unknown people will be cheering the seniors on as they walk down that aisle.
Graduation should be a happy time because the students are made into something many of them wished to be for years, adults. The students have their own unique perspective. Peyton Faber, a senior at Colby high School, says that after graduation he wishes to go to Colby Community College to work on getting his general education classes. Peyton's favorite teacher at the Colby High School was his engineering teacher, Dr. Moy.
Eva Sowers at the Colby High School wishes to go to Fort Hays State University to major in nursing. She claims that her favorite class of her Colby High School years was her yearbook class and her favorite teachers were Ms. Rundel who has since left, and Mr. Walker who is entering his second year.
The teachers at the Colby High School also have their opinions on this matter. Mr. Kane, who has worked here for five years as a physical education and weight lifting teacher, says that graduation is not easy for students or teachers.
“Graduating is sad but is necessary for students to pursue their dream careers,” he said. Mr. Kane is excited for new students every year and he claims to love new students at the school, for it gives him new and exciting people to teach the ways of the body.
Mrs. Myers, who has been here for 17 years as an English teacher has helped this school in many ways. She was a part of many blood drives for her community. She believes that her students are going to go on to do great things in their future. She also states that she is excited for the new year.
