New Coach, New Team?

By Tennyson Jackson

After the resignation of head coach, Rees McKinney, and assistant coach, Matt Sims of the Colby High school Football team, the school was left with two empty spots on the coaching staff. Out of six applicants, four of the applicants were granted interviews. Among the interviewing staff were two members of the CHS football team that will be returning to the field next fall. These members were selected by athletic Director Travis Betz and CHS principal Ryan Muhlig to give the new coaches a tour around CHS.  Only one member of the previous coaching staff applied to be the head coach, this was Ryan Mosier. Mosier is an employee at Colby high school, where he teaches Physical Education, Strength Training, and Health.

Mosier was granted the opportunity to be the head coach of the CHS football team on January 31st of 2023. Mosier has stated that he is planning on bringing back the other two assistant coaches of last year's staff, Tucker Branam and Thomas Klein along with possibly recruiting other assistant coaches that are willing to help grow the team. Mosier says that he has big plans for the football team in order to get the students at CHS more motivated and recruit more players to the team. One of these plans include starting social media platforms to grow the presence and create more of a community to buy into. Mosier has stated that hopefully within the next three years he would like to have at least 50 kids go out for football in one year.

Players have stated that they are excited to see what the next year's football team will have in store. The Eagles will return to the field in the fall of 2023 with a new coaching staff and are hoping for one of their best seasons yet.

Eagle Dance

By Kennedy McCarty

The Colby Eagle dance team had a very big weekend. Every year the Eagle dancers do a student teacher dance. The dancers and teachers danced with bandannas on and focused on a lot of partner work, they also danced to a compilation of some popular throwback songs along with  Cotton Eye Joe.

The dance team has performed at not only our annual Orange and Black tournament, but also at Topside Tip Off hosted by Goodland.

Our Eagle dancers perform at every single Boys home game for pregame and during halftime. These dances are all choreographed by head coach Denita Rodgers
