The Lady Eagles are preparing for the 2022-2023 season, a season that has some high expectations for the Lady Eagles. Coach Yancey Walker, entering his second season, is excited to get to coach these young ladies again this season.
Even with several underclassmen who gained valuable varsity experience last year, he is still careful to talk about the team’s potential.
“I always hesitate to use the word potential, because in my experience it simply means that we haven't accomplished anything yet,” he said. He also mentioned that with only three upperclassmen, they are still relatively inexperienced
As far as preparation and focus on what’s next he said that they don't look past the next opponent and our focus each day is just to get better.
“We are in the process of preparing for Wray, but it is just like any other endeavor, we have good days and we have days that are a bit of a struggle. It will simply rely on how we respond to being pushed to be our best each day.”
Due to a schedule change from last season to this season, the Lady Eagles open at the Goodland Topside Tip-Off tournament this season, a tournament that has good early season competition.
“I like that we get to see good competition at the Topside Tip-off and I like that it is close enough that our fans can come watch,” he said.
The Lady Eagles open against Wray, Colorado on December 8th at 9:00 pm central time in Goodland. The girls bracket is posted under the story.
A new basketball season is upon us
