Finding the correct spot
By Clayton Barton
One thing I notice day to day coming to school is that everyone parks in relatively the same spot every day. People like consistency. Here at CHS we have 3 styles of parking spots. The first row (furthest north) is reserved for teacher parking only. In the row just south of the “Teacher Row” there are handicap parking spots on the west end. Apart from those two classifications there are no restrictions. People park in whatever spot they want.
Although I have never seen anyone parked in the handicap parking; There have been countless times that I have seen students' vehicles in the teacher parking. I personally am one who pays attention to what people drive, so many times I have been asked by teachers if I know who drives a certain vehicle. I think it doesn't only annoy teachers but students as well when their spot gets taken.
One way I feel we could overcome this problem is by giving each student their personal parking spot for the school year. Many schools across America allow their seniors to paint the concrete inside the lines of their parking spot. If we had 1-2 weeks before the beginning of each school year where students get to come pick their parking spot. We could have each class come on a specified day to pick their spot for the school year. Once the seniors get their spot picked out they can decorate it however they want while remaining appropriate.
Not only do I feel this is something the students should get behind but teachers as well. Where in today's society of encouraging others to express themselves this is one more way for them to do so. I think this can make everyone happy because not only would it keep students out of eachothers spots but out of teachers' spots as well.
