Funding opportunities, examples of successful proposals, & more
Identifying funding opportunities and strategizing your approach
8 WEEKS BEFORE DEADLINE:
As soon as you identify and decide to pursue a funding opportunity, please notify us of your intent to seek external funding by clicking the button below and filling out the form.
6-8 WEEKS BEFORE DEADLINE:
After we have been alerted to your intent to seek external funding, we will collaborate with you to develop the project budget, ensure alignment with sponsor guidelines, and prepare the proposal for submission. The Colby Grant Proposal Endorsment Form must be completed and signed by the PI or Project Director, and reviewed by the appropriate Department Chair. After obtaining departmental approval, send your completed endorsement form together with a project budget, budget justification, and a brief project summary to grants@colby.edu.
To access forms required to prepare and submit applications to Federal grant-making agencies, visit the Grants.gov Form Repository.
2 WEEKS BEFORE DEADLINE:
We review and conduct compliance checks on final proposal materials, including all required supporting documentation, obtain all required institutional signatures, and complete all final validations prior to submission.
We monitor compliance requirements, maintain official grant records, support sound financial stewardship, and coordinate required sponsor reports. Post-award requirements, such as reporting, vary by sponsor and by opportunity. Investigators should carefully review an award’s terms and conditions, understand the requirements outlined in the award notice, and ensure that all programmatic and financial obligations are met throughout the life of the project, including renewing approvals with relevant compliance committees when applicable (IRB or IACUC).
