Demonstrate at school, the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, integrity, drive, citizenship, and strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent)
Be citizens of the United States of America. Be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States, or any of the U.S. territories and commonwealths, and graduating in winter 2023 or spring 2024. Applicants living on a U.S. Armed Forces base and attending high school outside the U.S. are eligible
Plan to enroll in a full‑time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four‑year college or university in the United States for the entire 2024-2025 academic year

Essays can be no more than 1,000 words but must be a minimum of 700 words. Citations and bibliography are not included in the word count.
Essays must be the original work of the student and have a minimum of five sources.
Essays must describe an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917

Be able to describe your ethnicity, heritage, or ancestry in relation to the countries, territories, or lands in Asia or the Pacific Islands
Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply
Be enrolling or continuing as a degree-seeking undergraduate student in a U.S. accredited college or university in Fall 2023
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted), or equivalent, or have earned a GED
Must apply for federal financial aid for the 2023-2024 academic year using the Free Application for the Federal Student Aid (FASFA) by early April 2023

Two letters of recommendation. Letters must be dated within the last three months.
If any one of these items are missing, the application will not be considered.
Letters of recommendation must contain the name of the applicant, comments on the applicant’s character and abilities, and an opinion of his/her ability to profit from a college education. A parent or close relative cannot be considered as a reference. The name and occupation of each person writing a letter is required.
