Welcome to the Tsongas Industrial History Center's "History of Pollution in the Merrimack Valley" Google Site.

Using the Merrimack River Valley as a case study, this site explores the origins of pollution and how it spreads. The following pages contain stories about how industrial and human by-products contaminated the land and waters of the Merrimack Valley, and how individuals and governments have fought, and are fighting, to keep it clean.

Teachers - How to use this site: This site contains primary documents, secondary sources, photos, community scientist profiles, and videos. In addition to background information, the pages provide supplemental resources and optional activities to expand student learning.
