2023 Executive Staff

2023 Co Editor-in-Chief

Hailey Schipper

she/her

Hailey Schipper is a junior English and Creative Writing major. She enjoys reading, writing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting--basically any arts and crafts you could imagine. Her favorite past time on campus is trying to pet the squirrels and chasing geese.

2023 Co Editor-in-Chief

Emerson Porter

she/they

Emerson Porter is a sophomore studying English, Creative Writing, Philosophy, and Theater. They enjoy writing, bike riding, playing board games, and burning candles. She is probably most comfortable halfway through a tangent on a niche subject no one else is listening to.

2023 Art Editor

Enza McMahon

she/her

Enza McMahon is first year at Coe. In addition to being the Art Editor, she is also a consultant at the Writing Center and a member of Drumline. Enza loves animals because she is obsessed with koalas and is the mom of two loving (most of the time...) cats, a silly dog, and the aunt of a grumpy hedgehog!

Financial Editor

HJ Hass

they/them

HJ Hass is a senior Writing and English double-major at Coe. In addition to their work on the Pearl they are also Co-Editor of Flowers Bloom Through Concrete, a zine produced in collaboration with the University of Iowa Prison Writing Project. In their free time they enjoy DJ-ing for Coe's radio station, reading, attempting the NYT Sunday crossword, cooking and eating soup, and dreaming of a national high speed rail system.

2023 Readers

Adele Dummermuth

she/her

Adele Dummermuth is a freshman Creative Writing and Rhetoric major. She enjoys books and poetry whether she's reading or writing them. She also enjoys knitting, drinking tea or coffee, and watching shows like Gilmore Girls on Netflix. A favorite pastime of hers on campus is seeing how many bananas she and her roommate can smuggle out of the Caf.

Kylie Hoy

she/her

Kylie Hoy is a sophomore English and Business Administration major. She appreciates spending time outdoors, checking out new cafes, and reading Jane Austen. If you can't find her taking a lap around campus in an insanely bright yellow trench coat, she's probably holed up writing--but never finishing--a novel in her room.

Courtney Rhinehart

she/her

Courtney Rhinehart is a Freshman English and Creative Writing major. She loves to read, write, draw, play piano, and bake when she has free time.

Rae Anstett

they/them

Rae Anstett is a Psychology and English major with a fledgling disdain for how "we live in a society." With a knitting needle and poem-writing pen in hand, they attempt to--somehow, someway--fight oppression.
