Joanne Rowling, also known as J.K. Rowling was born on July 31, 1965, in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. Her parents, Peter and Anne Rowling were very hardworking and at the age of 2, her sister Dianne had been born. After the passing of their mother, Rowling moved to Portugal in a heartbeat, after she took a job offer as an English teacher as a way to cope with the loss of her young mother.. Soon after moving, she met her first husband, Jorge Arantes in a local bar. They shared a love for literature and a love for the same author, Jane Austen. In October of 1992 they had gotten married and soon after in 1993 their daughter Jessica Isabel was born. However, not much longer after getting married, they had separated due to allegations of domestic violence on his part. With this situation, Rowling and her daughter, Jessica, moved to Scotland to start a new life without Jorge. After being a successful famous author with the “Harry Potter” series, Rowling found love again with Neil Murray. The couple got married in 2001 and had their son David Gordon in 2003, and their daughter Mackenzie Jean in 2005. Currently, Rowling and her husband Neil live in Edinburgh Scotland with their son, David and daughter, Mackenzie.
Rowling was born into a family where her father was a Rolls Royce aeronautical engineer and her mother served as a science technician. Her parents got married in 1965, which is the same year her mother gave birth to Rowling. She grew up alongside her sister Dianne, who was born when Rowling was two years old. Unfortunately, her mother had battled multiple sclerosis, a struggle that really affected the family. Rowling was only 25 years old when her mother passed at the age of 45. This loss deeply affected the family and especially Rowling. This experience of grief would later influence many themes of Rowling's work, mainly the importance of love and the impact of loss.
From a young age, Rowling was very passionate about writing, claiming that she “Lived for books.” This love for writing and literature inspired her to pursue a career as a writer. At just 5 years old, she created her first story, titled, “Rabbit.” Pursuing her imagination starting at an early age showing her talent and creativity. Rowling found a passion for storytelling and crafting stories for her little sister Dianne. Her fondness for fiction not only shaped her childhood but also laid the foundation for her career as one of the most beloved authors.
Rowlings educational path began at St. Michaels Primary School at the age of 3. Followed by Wyedean Comprehensive School after her family moved to Tutshill when she was 9 years old. After graduating, She had attended Exeter University where she wanted to study English but her parents were skeptical, so she pursued to get a bachelors in French and the Classics, and where her course included one year in Paris. After university, she worked as a researcher/secretary at Amnesty International, doing research into human right abuses in Francophone Africa. This was a pivotal time, in which during this time she had gotten the idea of, “Harry Potter.” Many years later, she published her first book, showing her writing skills. She became a famous author and transformed children's literature.
Life in the 1970’s in Southwestern England was a turning point in European history. The European society went through profound cultural changes and structural transformations during this time. During this time the post war emphasis on reconstruction and economic growth faded, and our current world began to take shape. Many economic problems occurred during this time. With the Arab-Israeli war in October of 1970, the Middle East oil producing nations created a large price increase and restricted sales to certain European countries.
