What You'll Need
Ceramic mugs- We purchased these mugs from a dollar store. Be sure the mugs say "dishwasher safe". If they don't, you should hand wash them.
Oil-based paint marker- These markers can be found at a craft store. This one cost $5.99, and I used a coupon for 20% off. If you want your image to stay put when you wash it, you must use an oil-based paint marker. They should also say "can use on glass".
How to Make your Mug
Draw Your Design
Think about what you would like to put on your mug. I chose a favorite quote from Michelle Obama. My daughter decided to draw a mountain scene.
Draw out your design with pencil first.
Decide if your mug will be "right handed" or "left handed". Draw your design on the opposite face that you would normally hold the handle on. My daughter is left-handed, so she drew her design with the handle facing right.
Bake Your Mug
You need to bake your mug in the oven to set your design.
Place your mugs in a cold oven.
Bake the mugs at 350 degrees for 40 minutes (set a timer).
After 40 minutes, turn off the oven, do not take your mugs out of the oven.
Allow your mugs to cool before you take them out. We left ours in for about 2 hours.
Enjoy Your Mug!
We hope that you will enjoy making these mugs for yourself or a loved one!
