As 5th and 6th grade students, you have the opportunity this year to learn how to play a musical instrument. Our program is taught district wide by musically trained and credentialed music teachers who specialize in every instrument. If you have ever wanted to learn an instrument, I would love to have you join us. This website was created to provide all the information you will need in order to get started. Please explore the website to learn more, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I will look forward to seeing you in class!

The purpose of our music program is to begin the study of a musical instrument and to experience the pleasure of music through playing that instrument. Students participating in band or violin also develop self-confidence, responsibility, self-discipline, and teamwork. We do several performances throughout the year and collaborate with El Cerrito MS, Citrus Hills IS, and Santiago HS Bands and Orchestras, which builds a sense of community in the students' lives. Additionally, research shows that there is a strong connection between learning an instrument and improved test scores and grades.
30 minute music lessons will take place 2 times each week during regular school hours. Additionally, students will be expected to practice their instruments at home and complete "assignments". We will perform several times throughout the school year!
Instruments available for instruction are violin, viola, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion (mallets only for beginners). Please research each instrument before selecting which one you would like to learn. You may do so by clicking on the link below.
