STudent storymaps

november 15 - november 19 | rotunda

This exhibition shows the final projects of the students that took GEOG 350: GIS for the Social Sciences this semester. The course is designed as a first step into the exploration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and how it can be used to perform social science research, analysis, and policy development. Besides obtaining a conceptual understanding of what is and how to use GIS, students learn the basic structure of a geospatial environment, the spatial nature of data, and experiment with desktop and online GIS software packages. Starting next academic year, this course will be offered every Spring semester.

Students conducted an independent project using spatial analysis. They chose their problem or research question and collected the data. They prepared the data for import in the software package and chose one or more appropriate GIS analysis technique(s). They wrote up their results in a dynamic and engaging Storymap for you to see.
