The Key Club Experience
Isabelle Schinzing | CNH Communications & Marketing Chair
"The past four years in this organization have been a blast. From my first meeting as a nervous freshman to now finding new friendships and opportunities as a senior, I would not trade the experiences I have made in Key Club. Thank you to all the Kiwanians, past officers, and fellow D23 yetis who have shaped me to be the person I am today. Signing out one last time!"
Candidate Training Conference
Ailin Salas | D23 Spirit Coordinator
"I had such a great time at this year’s Candidate Training Conference (CTC)!! I got to meet so many other passionate Key Clubbers from R16 and had a chance to communicate ideas with current LTGs. Though the drive there was a lot, it was so worth it! The memories I made and the knowledge I gained is something I could never put a price on."

Mustang Round-Up
Daisy Perales Rizo | Secretary
"On March 6th, our club participated in our school's Mustang Rally. This event is used to help guide incoming freshmen around our school and promote different extracurriculars and clubs, like Key Club! This is my second year attending and it was a super fun and exciting event! We got to meet new people and show our love for Key Club and the community. This event is such a wonderful way to promote the club and get a head start on our club rush. We cannot wait to start our new term and see our club grow!"
The Key Club Experience
Natalie Torlao | Member & D23 Media/Tech Editor
"Joining Key Club my first year of high school gave me a community that I trust and feel that I can be myself in. Meeting new people, discovering new passions in my life, and allowing me to grow as a person is all thanks to Key Club! Now, I recommend Key Club to high schoolers new and old, so they can have the same experience I did!"
The Key Club Experience
Emma Richards | President & D23 Spirit Coordinator
"Key Club is a very important part of my life. I've had the chance to meet so many amazing people in the program; I have had the amazing opportunity to work with my fellow Spirit Coordinators Ailin and Jaylah. They have made my last year of Key Club so great! Working in the DLT this year has also been a fantastic experience, as it has given me leadership skills and confidence that I didn’t know I had. I love this club and everything it has provided for me!"

The Key Club Experience
Bell Realubit | Member & D23 Media/Tech Editor
"Key Club isn’t just another school club, it’s been a huge part of my growth. Before joining, I was shy and unsure of myself, but through service and leadership, I found myself. More than that, I created amazing bonds and memories. To me, it’s not just about volunteering; it’s about the people, the experiences, and how it’s shaped me into the person that I am today."
Social Worker's Closet
Sophia Gaytan | Vice President
"At Elko High School, we have gathered, organized, and displayed donated clothing from our community. With all our hard work, we have officially created Elko Key Club’s Social Worker’s Closet. The purpose of our Social Worker’s Closet is to provide people with clothing in cases of emergency, necessity, or for financial relief. For example, there was a student who just moved to Elko and was unprepared for the upcoming bipolar weather. As the student was being surrounded by rapid changes, we offered him an opportunity to look at our Social Worker’s Closet. He was able to get jackets, gloves, and hats of his choosing. With the donated clothing, he was also able to prep his clothing for other occasions without further worry. Anyone can use the Social Worker’s Closet, including the students of Elko High School! For instance, a student of Elko High School was having a bad day and additionally, ripped her pants in class. She couldn’t drive and couldn’t call anyone that was available to bring her a new pair of pants. Understanding her struggle, we led her to the Social Worker’s Closet, where she can get some new jeans in such short notice. By seeing how successful the Social Worker’s Closet has become, we have vowed to take care of it and continue its improvements. With that in mind, we consistently arrange racks, shelves, and signs, so that people can find clothing more easily. Therefore, with our efforts, we hope to help more people find clothing that is more accessible!"
HOSA Service Meeting
Neel Gorla | Editor
"At one of our January club meetings, we had the HOSA president, Yazhini. She talked about a service opportunity that HOSA plans to do, and she’d like to involve us in it. Our club has been quite dry for service projects recently, so we are excited for this opportunity to collaborate with HOSA! We think this will be a great way to revive our club, and it’ll boost member engagement. Aside from that, Nandu, our club president, talked about some housekeeping stuff, and we ate lunch together."

"My time in Key Club has been full of fun adventures. I've had opportunities to engage in various community service projects, which helped me build my leadership skills while making a positive impact on others. Alongside the amazing students that are a part of this club, they've always been inviting and optimistic. I'm beyond thankful to be a part of such an amazing team!"

Toys and Recognition
Steffen Lacsamana | President
"We made some dog toys to donate, and I had a ton of fun! I'll admit that the process of making the toys was a bit challenging, but with help from the other members, I got it done without any problems. In addition to the toys, our advisers, Gail Lee and Robert Lee, were also recognized as Advisors of the Month! I’m really grateful for everything they do for us, and without them, I’m sure that Key Club wouldn’t be as enjoyable of an experience. Thank you!"
Food Bank
Stacy Nam | President
"It was very heartwarming to distribute bags on Thanksgiving weekend. It was great to see all the smiles and I’m very glad Damonte was able to help our community. We hope to go and help again during the Christmas season."
Distribution Event
Isabelle Randolph | Editor
"At the distribution event, our members went and handed out the donations they had collected for two weeks. We found that we really enjoyed giving back to our community. Being able to see firsthand what the impact of our donations could be. Having members say it made them feel good being active in their community. This is a good opportunity to become further involved within our community and allow our members to earn their service hours. It was a fun experience and created a good feeling not only within our members but also in our community. We would like to do more of this in the future with our members, to continue building our relationships with others in our community."
November DCM
Neel Gorla | Editor
"At the November DCM, we went over some Key Club updates, as well as what each school has been doing the past month. Then, we jumped into our DCM activity: making dog toys and cards for the community. Me and Nandu, our club’s president, decided to create dog toys. The method was to create 3 strips of T-shirt, which we did by using scissors and tearing the shirts, then tie the 3 strands at one point and then braid them down. I had some trouble since I don’t know how to braid, but I got help from other people. Now, Nandu did know how to braid, and so her dog toys came out great. The DCM was overall a positive experience, I got to meet new people when I asked for help braiding, and I also felt the struggle with others who also didn’t know how to braid."

Region 5's Training Conference
Sydney Duong | D23 LTG
"On October 26th, 2024, I had the honor of attending Region 5’s Training Conference with our Immediate Past LTG/current District CM Chair Izzy in Vegas! It was an amazing experience seeing the spirit and rallies they had with over 1,000 members in attendance. They had a superhero theme and I loved seeing all the clubs’ unique spirit gear and individual chants. I presented a workshop about AAR (Annual Achievement Report) and bonded with some Vegas Key Clubbers doing some karaoke. The whole day was so fun but definitely tiring. Thank you so much to the Region 5 team and Division 28’s for having me there!"

Andelin Family Farm Clean-Up
Isabelle Schinzing | CNH Communications & Marketing Chair
"My experience at the Andelin Farm event was amazing! We started the event off by getting to ride the zombie paintball buses. We then split up into smaller groups to collect different pumpkins. My friends and I got to collect mini pumpkins, which were all so cute. We were able to help out around the farm and organize the pumpkins at the end of the event. Overall the Andelin Family farm event was an awesome event that gave members the opportunity to experience the farm while lending a helping hand!"
Blood Drive
Mariana Medina | Editor
"The Elko High School Key Club hosted this year's fall blood drive in our old gym. We had lots of our members join in our blood drive to help get students that can donate and are willing to donate the opportunity to do so. We did this before the blood drive began and during the blood drive we had to help out by handing times they had to be there to the students that signed up to donate. What we also did was take students to their next classes to make sure they were healthy and okay to do so. We did this the whole day and to make sure that we are still going to our class we were limited to only using our elective classes to help out. Overall there weren't any big problems going on and the blood drive went very smoothly."
October DCM
Nandana Praveen | President
"Key Club held its DCM on October 6th, 2024. We processed payments for Fall Rally North, though it did take a while. After that, we all had a good time meeting new people from different schools’ Key Clubs. Some members even went and played tennis during the DCM. We were able to play doubles thanks to Nandu, the president of Galena’s Key Club, who brought several tennis rackets to the DCM. She also made some bracelets, with Oliva, the historian, and Emily. Though, we had to stop messing around eventually to learn about Fall Rally North. What it is, how it is going to work, etc. Nandu herself isn’t going, but she stuck around anyway. As club president, she knows it’s important that she informed on all things Key Club, even things that she personally isn’t involved in. The picture above shows Nandu’s, Olivia’s, and Emily’s completed bracelets at the DCM!"

Church Clean-Up
Teagan Langer | Member
"Last weekend, I joined my friends for a couple of hours at our local church to pull weeds. It was hard work, but we had a lot of fun and it felt good making a difference. By the end of the day, the church grounds looked much better, and we all felt proud of what we'd accomplished together."
Club Fair
Irisnair Quintana Escobar | President
"The club fair went really well! Normally, people only join Key Club because past presidents promote it as
one big Six Flags trip but we decided to promote it more as a service club in order to get members to join
for the purpose of service! It definitely went well. The day before we had our advisory get
candies and made a small spirit stick, poster board photo ops, and had some official Key Club props to
attract members. We had a TON of members join and are so, so excited for the rest of this term with our
new members!"

The Key Club Experience
Gabriel Ochieng| Member
"Key Club was one of the first school-based communities that I joined in freshman year. I am incredibly glad that it was because it provided multiple good images of what high school could look like for me. Naturally, I was nervous when I first joined but at two meetings in, I had already built a sense of comfort. This led to my deep interest in the club and wanting to get more involved. Key Club is a wonderful experience that I am happy to continue throughout the rest of my years at DRHS!"
Lavender & Honey Festival
Natalie Torlao | D23 Technology Editor
"The Lavender and Honey Festival was so much fun, and it was a wonderful opportunity to connect with my friends and meet with new people! There were many flexible choices for volunteer work which made it easy to pick hours. The games and the arts and crafts were so fun, and it was amazing being able to help our community. I would recommend everyone to volunteer for the next festival!”

Vera Wu | D23 EA of Fundraising
"Hi Yetis! My name is Vera and I am currently an incoming senior. I’ve been in Key Club since my freshman year and I have loved the new experiences and friendships that this club has given me. Since my first year in Key Club, I have been able to work with and meet new people at events such as DCON and FRN, as well as work on improving my leadership skills as an officer on the club and division level. These past three years have been amazing, and I am so excited to see what’s in store for this next term!"
Celebrating Holi
Yazhini Arunprakash | Member
"Hi, I’m Yazhini Arunprakash, I’m an upcoming junior at Galena High School. Holi is a celebration where Hindus and non-Hindus come together to have fun banter by throwing coloured powder at each other. Getting to celebrate this event, at Reno, was truly memorable. There were choreographed dances; many food and drink stalls; and a DJ playing songs. This cultural atmosphere drove a bond between all of us, where we were all laughing, running, and dancing. It created a community."
June DCM
Adriana Santana | Editor
"At the June DCM we went over Division events and updates, as well as recognition for Club, Kiwanis Advisor, Faculty Advisor, Officer, and Member Of The Month; following with finishing up painting benches. After that we set up a slime station and made some really cool Yeti Slime!! I had some trouble with making my batch a few times but it was really fun!"

The Key Club Experience
Irene Nam | IP President
"Joining Key Club my sophomore year opened a myriad of opportunities throughout high school I never could have expected. I met so many incredible and ambitious people through events such as DCON and FRN but also DCMs and local service events. Key Club truly allowed me to experience my community to the fullest and exercise my personal strengths and talents for the greater good. As a graduating senior, I am so grateful for all that Key Club has enabled me to achieve and discover about how I can serve my world in the future."
Indian Association of Northern Nevada
Neel Gorla | Editor
"On May 24, 2024, the Key Club at Galena had an opportunity to volunteer at the Asian American stands in Reno’s downtown, specifically IANN’s, (Indian Association of Northern Nevada) stand. We helped set up and take down IANN’s stand, along with helping with sales, mainly selling Holi shirts and drinks. While we were there, we experienced other Asian cultures, specifically their dance and music, as there was a stage. We saw Chinese and Korean dances, and they saw Indian dances, all in one place. The switching between Indian Korean, and other music was quite interesting, as they are created very differently.”
May DCM
Lorie Dumaguing | D23 EA Secretary
"Although the sun was getting to the best of us, my friends and I contributed to repainting the Manzanita park benches! We shared treats with other clubs for AAPI month and played activities like telephone!"

April DCM
Darell Acebu | 23-24 DVMT Member
"I can’t believe that the term has come to an end and that my Key Club journey is finally over! At the April DCM & Banquet, I was glad to see many members show up and see how much we have accomplished throughout the past term. From a member in my freshman year to serving as Division News Editor last term, our division has become a strong and welcoming community. Good luck next term!"
Teacher Appreciation
Emma Richards | President
"At the teacher appreciation card making event we are working to give out thank you cards to teachers all over SSHS. This shows our appreciation for the teachers in the school for how much they do for us and how much help they provide. Thank you to all the teachers who have supported us students!"
