English:
For English, the next assessment focuses on creative writing. In terms of revision, the lead up to the assessment focuses more on drafting the piece of creative writing.
The English teachers will be setting a practice / drafting homework that students will complete over half term in preparation for the assessment fortnight after half term.
This will be posted to all English Google classrooms at the start of the final week of this half term (week commencing 20th October 2025).
Maths:
This assessment will be done in one lesson and will cover key topics previously taught in half term 1, as well as some additional areas covered earlier in year 7. The aim is to gauge students’ understanding and retention of core concepts. Revision lessons will focus on preparation for the upcoming assessment. Students will be given clear instructions on how to revise effectively using their Sparx. Lessons will include guided revision activities and targeted practice.
Students should continue engaging with their sparx homework tasks, as these are tailored to their learning and cover the topics being assessed.
Advice for parents supporting their child:
Encourage regular revision in small chunks rather than cramming.
Ask your child to show you their Sparx homework and talk you through what they’ve been learning.
Help them create a quiet, distraction-free environment to revise. Remind them to ask for help in school if they’re unsure about anything, MF4 at lunchtime
Science:
Literacy assessment for year 8. Covering key terms and definitions. Also an extended response questions where they need to write 2 explanation paragraphs.
Year 8 will be making flash cards as part of their revision lesson, so it would be good for parent/carers to quiz them on the key vocabulary.
Extra revision can be done if students wish on Bitesize at: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zpygcmn#zb9wqfr
RE:
Year 8 will be doing an in-class assessment on printed papers. This will include some multiple choice, 2 mark questions and year 9 will also do an art analysis question. Classes will be carrying out lessons using the Leitner method alongside knowledge organisers in class. RE teachers will also be setting a quiz online in google classrooms to aid base knowledge before the tests
Design & Technology (please note there is no assessment for textiles or food):
Students will have a test in class on all the knowledge they have accumulated during the term. They will all be given a knowledge organiser to revise from which is posted in their google classrooms. This is a copy here: Knowledge organiser
Music:
Students will perform a piece of music and have a theory quiz to complete. Year 8 are undertaking a keyboard skills unit and will be assessed on the accuracy, fluency and musicality of their performance which has scaffolded levels of difficulty. Students are able to access higher marks by performing a more challenging piece well. The theory quiz relates to the content they have been learning with a mixture of questions around specifics like how to read the relevant notation alongside a listening task where students will listen to and appraise a listening example.
Parents can support by going through this slide show with the students (also in the student google classrooms): Music revision
History:
ICT/Computing: Year 8 do not study this subject so there will not be any testing.
