Mrs. Blackburn

Welcome to 2024!

I can’t believe our school year is halfway through.  I hope you all had a relaxing and wonderful break. Thank you all for the thoughtful, sweet gifts you showered on me.  I truly appreciate all of you for thinking of me!

I want to take a moment to update you all on some things happening in 2B.  First of all, I have switched the students' desks around.  As I mentioned at Back to School Night, It is something I like to do to have the students learn to work around and with different groupings.  In addition, we have our NWEA Maps midyear testing right around the corner.  The students will be testing on January 18, 23, and 25 -  first thing in the morning. Please have your child at school on time!

Thank you for your time!

Dear Families,

First of all, thank you to all those who have served in our Armed Forces and to the spouses who hold down the home front!  You are an invaluable part of our country and community!

As the weather begins to get cooler, please remember to send your child to school dressed for the weather. As you know, it is easier to take off a coat thantry to stay warm without one.  I don't want anyone getting sick beofore the holidays.  we miss them when they are absent!

As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to tell you how thankful I am for all of you joining me on this second grade journey.  Your children are amazing!

Thank you!

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday Afternoon.  What a beautiful day after our rainy week.   Just a bit of upcoming news!  We are taking our NWEA Maps testing over the next few weeks.  Second grade is the first year the students take this computer assessment.  On Tuesday (September 19th - Reading), Thursday (September 21st - Language Arts), and next Tuesday (September 26th - Math), we will be starting our sessions.  It is important to have the students here at school as we will begin testing at 8:00 in the morning. The test is untimed and it takes most of the morning.  These sessions give us a glimpse into our students' level of performance.

Thank you all so much for attending our Back to School Night!  I was happy to see so many wonderful parents there.  If you were not able to attend, I sent home a folder with a packet on Friday.  The packet is more detailed and includes information discussed during the slide presentation.  I have been so impressed with your children and how easily they learned so many procedures and routines.   They are delving right into our curriculumn with the same focus!

Please do not forget that Wednesday is Picture Day!  You should have received a flyer and order form in the Friday Folder!  If you did not find them, the office has a few extra!   We also have a field trip coming up to Colon Orchards in October.  Once we receive bus approval for the students, we will send out more information.

Welcome to Second Grade!!!

I am so excited to be starting a new year with all of you!  The students have been doing a wonderful job learning procedures and routines.  We are beginning our new reading program "Wonders" on August 28th.  We will be learning the second grade program together!!!  I look forward to working with all of you throughout the year!  I hope to meet many of you during the beginning of the year. Our Back to School Night is Thursday, September 7th.   Remember this is just an introduction to Second Grade.  I would be happy to set up a meeting with you for specific concerns.  It is going to be a great year!
