Ms. McEachern

Ms. McEachern, MA, MSW, is a graduate of East Carolina University (ECU). Ms. McEachern obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Master’s degree in Teaching, and Master’s degree in Social Work from ECU. Ms. McEachern has worked in the field of Human Services for over seventeen years.

What is Social Work?

Social work is a helping profession that promotes social change and empowerment of people and communities. Social Work enhances well-being and helps meet basic as well as complex needs of all people, particularly those who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty.

What do Social Workers do?

Social Workers assist individuals to function optimally within their environments. Social Workers help individuals maximize the opportunity for change in themselves and/or their situations. Social Workers work with individuals, groups, communities, and systems.

School Social Workers are responsible for Developmental and Family Assessments, Suicide Risk Assessments, Dropout Prevention, Bullying Prevention and intervention, McKinney Vento (MCV), Crisis Intervention, Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Attendance, Truancy, Behavioral Interventions, Peer Mediation, Counseling, Parent engagement and support, and Connecting families with resources.

School Social Workers:

  • Provide students with assistance in the areas of academic support, financial resources, medical services, mental health services, positive decision-making, problem solving, and substance abuse services.

  • Develop behavioral interventions for students struggling with anger and other emotions, displaying poor social skills and having conflicts with other students.

  • Provide responsive services for students who have been victimized as a result of abandonment, child abuse, domestic violence, dating violence, neighborhood violence, mental illness, bullying and harassment, and gang involvement.

  • Provide consultation to teachers, administrators, IEP teams, Intervention Teams, and professional support staff to develop individualized intervention plans.
