About Me

Music has always been a part of my life. As a 4 year old, I sang in my church choir, in my elementary school music classes and with my twin sister staring for hours into our over-sized mirror dancing and singing. I made the decision to become a music teacher after graduating from the nation's 1st Music and Arts public high school, Arts High School, in Newark NJ. My music studies continued at Hampton University where I completed my baccalaureate degree with a major in vocal music education.

I continue to study music keeping up with the best music teaching practices to engage today's learning child. Most recently I completed my Level 1 Orff Certification at Appalachian State University. I absolutely love music and want for each of my students to also love music at a higher level, each time they enter and leave my class. I have been teaching general music at Hidden Valley Elementary for 9 years. By the time students matriculate through my music classes eventually moving up to Middle School, it is my hope that their music love and literacy will have become heightened through our music teaching, performances and experiences shared.

I am married to my wonderful partner in love and life, Leon. I have one wonderful son, Imani, a UNC graduate who now lives in Brooklyn, New York. I am a published author and workshop facilitator/speaker. I love music and dance of all kinds and also totally enjoy yoga and rebounding. You can find me around Charlotte eating good tasting healthy food, dancing, attending jazz and dance festivals, music concerts, theater productions and just having good ole' fashioned, joy-filled fun.
