What is S.T.E.A.M.?

STEAM is a blend of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math in order to address and solve the problems of the world.  Our mission is to ignite personal passions within students to create life-long learners and future problem solvers.

McClintock Middle School is one of the leaders in the STEAM revolution within North Carolina.  The program consists of infusing the design process, creative problem solving, and innovation into core curriculum and infusing the technical disciplines into the arts classes.

A few examples would include:

Drawing using coding.

3D printing historical figures.

Using VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) to explore Mayan Ruins and DaVinci's Inventions.

Using graphic design software, like Adobe CS and Corel Suite,  to create marketing campaigns.  And many more...

MSA Merit Award

In 2019-2020, McClintock Middle School was awarded the Magnet Schools of America National School of Distinction.  And in 2021-2022 we received its second highest honor of Magnet Schools of America Magnet School of Excellence.  McClintock is one of 121 schools in the nation to be awarded this honor.  This is the first award of its kind the school has received in its history.  In 2022-2023 we recieved MSA's top highest award of Top Magnet School of Distinction.  This award puts our STEAM program as one of the top 24 magnet programs in the country! It is a shining example of the work we are doing at the school and, more importantly, the quality of of our magnet experience at McClintock.

The Velocity Of a drone

In 7th grade Science classes, we had a lesson that focused on velocity and how to calculate it.  Instead of using worksheets, we went into the field and used drones.  The students teamed up as timers and measurers.  Then, the drone then took flight.  We measured the distance, time and direction.  One 7th grader said, "This is the most fun I have had all year!"

Elemental pirates

In 8th grade Science, we took the role of space pirates flying through a nebula to capture elements.  These elements formed common compounds like, water, carbon dioxide, salt, and chlorine. The students would have to pilot their SpherO ship over the element to capture it.  Once their compound was complete they flew their ship back to base.
