Course Description: Nike or Under Armour? Foot Action or Footlocker? The Hunger Games or The Avengers? How and why consumers choose one brand over another? How do businesses keep and attract consumers in sports and entertainment? The answer…Marketing!
This course introduces students to the industry of sports, entertainment, and event marketing. Emphasis is placed on the following principles as they apply to the industry: branding, licensing, and naming rights; business foundations; concessions and on-site merchandising; economic foundations; promotion; safety and security; and human relations.
To prepare students for college and career readiness, skills in written and verbal communications, human relations, psychology, and mathematics are reinforced in this course. Marketing simulations, projects, teamwork, DECA leadership activities, meetings, conferences, and competitions provide many opportunities for application of instructional competencies.
Grading Policy: This is how your grade will be determined in class:
Formal (test, quizzes and projects)............................ 70%
Informal (homework, daily work, participation)...... 30%

Attendance Students are expected to be present for synchronous instruction, work, and submit assignments daily.
Classroom Rules & Procedures:
Students should be visible during remote learning sessions whenever possible and dress should be appropriate

● Tops must cover chest, back, stomach, and shoulders worn.
● Items that promote drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, obscene messages or inappropriate gestures should not be worn.
● Hoods, hats, sunglasses or other items that may distract the learning environment should not be worn.
Students are required to follow any other rule that is mentioned in the Students’ Rights, Responsibilities & Character Development Handbook and they will be enforced in class.
Consequences: All discipline problems will be dealt with according to the CMS policy. Discipline issues disrupt the learning environment and infringe on other students’ right to learn. Consequences are as follows:
Verbal warning
Contact parents/guardians
Referral to the office and a call to parents
I. Turning in Assignments
The teacher will collect homework, group-work or individual work. You will turn these in only when the teacher asks for them. You are to turn in assignments in Canvas, unless otherwise instructed.
II. Tutoring and Extra Credit Assignments
Student must arrange with Professor Dawson before school, before class, at lunch time or after school about tutoring. Professor Dawson will create a Zoom meeting time for students who need assistance.
