Hello everyone- Mr. Cox here. I've been teaching at Oaklawn Language Academy for many years now- about 16 I think!!!
This is me with my most recent Quarantine haircut- and my dog Rosco (my other dog Cooper wouldn't get in the picture with us). I have 2 awesome children- 6th and 8th grade this year. I grew up in Mobile, Al on the Gulf of Mexico. I love the Carolina Panthers, the Atlanta Braves, and as for college- the great APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY (Go 'NEERS!!!!).

CHALLENGE 1 ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Ok everyone (who is bothering to check this site)- here is my first challenge of the week: CREATE A COLLABORATIVE PIECE OF ART with the members of your household (that means that everyone in your house must HELP to draw the picture). I would like it to be a picture of your family!! You can have everyone draw themselves- or each person can draw someone ELSE in the family. Take a picture of the drawing and send it to my email (wade.cox@cms.k12.nc.us) by next Tuesday (by midnight). Assuming I get *a few* entries- I will draw a name from a hat and create a T-shirt for your family with your artwork on it!!!
Disclaimer: I will be screen-printing a T-shirt BASED on your artwork- I will not be able to re-create it *exactly.* I will only be able to use a 1 color print- and it may not include every detail you have in your artwork. You can still include a lot of details and as many colors as you want in the original though!!!
HELLO EVERYONE!!!!! I hope you all have been doing well!!!!! I miss you all!!!!!!! Spring Break starts SOOOOON I hope you all have a relaxing and fun time with your families!!!!
Remember- if you get too bored- art is a fun and EASY thing to do!!!!
When we get back from Spring Break- I'm going to be posting a few challenges for those of you who are interested. In order to get MYSELF making art again- I think I'm going to create a challenge for YOU. Those who follow through with it will get a chance to win a hand printed T SHIRT that I will make of YOUR artwork. More details to follow..... Until then- check out other activities below and HAVE FUN!!!!
CHALLENGE 1: Find 1 square thing, 1 circular thing, 1 triangular thing, and 1 rectangular thing. Try to balance them on top of each other- THEN DRAW THEM!!!!

Special area BINGO.docxHello everyone- Happy MONDAY!!!!!!! Just checking in with a few new ideas and updates- hope you are all doing well! Here are a few activities to get your ART on today- see how many you can complete!!!
Using found objects from around your house- create a COLOR WHEEL using objects for the 3 primary colors and 3 secondary colors (3-5 graders- for a challenge- try finding the tertiary colors as well). Do a little research about the color wheel on the website below if you need a little refreshers.
2. Want to make a cool design? Ask your parents for a coffee filter (a piece of tissue paper also works well)- fold the filter in half (or, in fourths - fold in half twice) before using permanent markers to draw simple designs across the filter. Go over several times to make sure the colors bleed all the way through to each layer. USE A PIECE OF SCRAP PAPER UNDER YOUR ARTWORK TO PROTECT YOUR TABLE ALWAYS!!!!! ALSO- make sure to get permission before using these materials!!!!
3. Check back tomorrow for a fun game of "SPECIALS BINGO" we will be posting for a bunch of fun activities for you to do at your house!!!
Get started with this- I will be updating this often- especially during the first few weeks of our special "break" from school. I will be adding daily art challenges and also trying to find a platform for posting pictures of some of your work. I hope you all stay safe and take care!!!
