Let's Celebrate Arts in Education!
It's National Arts in Education Week, so there's no better time to celebrate the amazing team of arts educators we have on campus at SCMS. Art, drama, music, and dance may technically be electives, but they're also essentials - they help kids build life skills, manage stress, and succeed academically. Science tells us that middle school students who participate in fine arts programming at school:
- make better grades,
- have higher self-esteem,
- form stronger friendships,
- and show more confidence across multiple aspects of life.
Best of all? Those impacts are life-long. So even if our fine arts teachers aren't producing movie stars or the next Yo-Yo Ma, they are producing successful, happy, and confident adults. The South Charlotte Middle School Fine Arts Network (FAN) was created to support the fine arts in our school. With the support of FAN, SCMS offers seven different fine arts programs: Art, Band, Chorus, Dance, Drama, Guitar, and Orchestra.
The South Charlotte Middle School Fine Arts Network (FAN) was created to support the fine arts in our school. With the support of FAN, SCMS offers seven different fine arts programs: Art, Band, Chorus, Dance, Drama, Guitar, and Orchestra.
Through both class fees and FAN Patron contributions, FAN has been able to enrich these programs and support our amazing fine arts teachers with the purchase of: sheet music, costumes, props, lighting equipment, a sound system, a baby grand piano, art supplies, risers, instruments, scripts, not to mention supporting our students to attend competitions and clinics throughout the year.

The fee must be paid by SEPTEMBER 30th.

First, if your student is taking a fine arts class at any point during the 2025-2026 school year, you can pay your child’s required fine arts fees via pay4schoolstuff.com.

Second, in lieu of paying the specific class fees, you can choose to be a fine arts hero and become a FAN Patron, again through pay4schoolstuff.com. Becoming a FAN Patron means all of your students’ fine arts class fees for the year will be covered, including Honors fees.
