During September we learned about the role of our School Counselor with the help of the book "The Rabbit Listened" By Cori Doerrfeld.
In October we learned about Coping Skills and how we can utilize these to help manage big feelings. As your student what "tools" they have for when they experience big feelings. Did Wreck it Ralph use healthy or unhealthy coping skills?
In November we are learning about Personal Safety. These lessons are required lessons that highlight the importance of personal safety, strategies to keep themselves safe, and identify trusted, safe individuals in their trusted triangle.
December is dedicated to feelings. What are they, are they ok to have, how can we express them in appropriate ways?
This January students will learn the Zones of Regulation and how knowing what zone we are in can help us to manage and gain control over our feelings. Which can allow us to apply the coping skills we learned about in October.
February will be lessons on Friendship and highlighting the differences between joking, teasing, and bullying.
For March we will explore Growth Mindset.
April will highlight lessons on Active Listening
During the month of May we will explore other methods of personal safety - Sun, Swim, Electronic safety. Preparing ourselves for the summer ahead!

Students will identify coping skills to use when in uncomfortable/stressful situations at home and school.
Quarter 2: Advocating for their Rights
Students will be able to verbalize 3 rights that they have (the right to be safe, the right to be cared for, and the right to get help) and what they can do if their rights are not being considered.
Students will be able to identify adults whom they can go to for help.

Students will understand how to apply effective coping strategies when dealing with peer conflict.
Students will be able to experience how peer pressure influences their decisions.

Students will identify individuals who can provide support to them when in unsafe situations & expand their vocabulary on safety and inappropriate/appropriate touches.
Students will problem-solve ways to respond to situations that could potentially hurt themselves or others.

Students will discover information about career pathways.

Quarter 1: Power of Controlling Your Emotions
Students will be able to reframe a scenario by applying methods for controlling emotions and behavior
Students will be able to explain how having personal power can help them control their emotions and behavior
Quarter 2: Personal Safety
Student(s) will review vocabulary words and definitions associated with personal body safety.
Students will discuss different scenarios in groups to determine if the situation involves abuse, neglect, and/or harassment and how they should handle the situation.
Quarter 3: College Career Readiness
Students will discover information about career pathways.
Students will identify career pathways that are a fit for their interests.
Quarter 4: Transitioning to Middle School
Student(s) will be able to discuss common transition topics for middle school and understand how their actions can have consequences in MS.
