December 2023     Hour of Code

All students (K-5) participated in Hour of Code during Creative Commons classes.  Students were introduced to computer science through fun activities.  Students moved at their own pace learning the fundamentals of coding such as sequencing, debugging, loops and functions.  Students learned how to solve problems and learned that everything is not easy.    Students took their learning from online games to coding our Bee Bots.

December 2023     Specials Winter Rotations

Special Area teachers planned fun Winter Rotations for all students.  When students visited their special area classes, they participated in physical education winter bingo, creating snowball launchers, coding with beads to create name snowflakes, listening to stories, and drawing a winter snow globe.

About Mrs. Ruby

Hello and welcome to Creative Commons at Rama Road Elementary!  ☺

My name is Mrs. Michelle S. Ruby. I have been teaching for 27 years. I completed my student teaching and the first nine years of my career at Rama Road from 1996-2005 and it makes me so happy to be back! I spent 16 years teaching 1st and 2nd grade for Union County Public Schools. While in Union County I became involved as a Union County Global Teacher Leader, a Discovery Education Leader Corps Member, and became a leader in maintaining our school garden. I lived in Matthews, NC most of my life except for the four years I was in the beautiful North Carolina mountains pursuing my degree in elementary education at Appalachian State University.  Last year, we sold our house in Matthews and moved to Badin Lake.  In November 2004, I became a National Board Certified Teacher, renewed that certification in 2010, and hoping to renew for a second time this year.  I am married and have two sons. My husband, David Ruby, is a retired Matthews Police Lieutenant and is a Rama Road Alumni. My oldest son, Will Ruby, is 25 years old. My youngest son, Haden Ruby, is 20 years old and is headed off to his junior year at Methodist University. I am so excited about this school year and working with our amazing students!

About Mrs. Krantz

My name is Mrs. Jeanette C. Krantz. I have my BS degree from the College of WV in Behavioral Social Sciences.  Upon my graduation from college I worked as a mental health social worker and then became a stay at home mom for many years. Upon my reentry to the workforce, I have had several positions working with children until I landed at Rama and I couldn't be happier to be here.  I have a real passion for reading, books, and introducing that love to children so Creative Commons feels like a perfect fit for me.  I grew up in wild and wonderful WV but have also lived in Baltimore MD and settled in Charlotte, NC in 2002.  I am married and have two children (one son, one daughter), two cats, and one dog.  My husband, Todd Krantz, is retired from the US Army Reserves (we survived three deployments!), works for Synchrony Financial and currently working on his MBA.  My son, Logan Krantz, is 22 years old, works for a call center and hopes to work for himself in the near future.  My daughter, Katelyn Krantz, is 19 years old and will be heading off for her sophomore year at UNCC.  She plans to get her master's degree and become an occupational therapist.   I am excited about the upcoming school year and working with our fabulous students!
