The tears.... the hesitation.... the bargaining.... heading off to school can bring out lots of BIG feelings.... and in our kids too {only kind of kidding}! :)
We can help calm their big feelings by not joining them.
You would be amazed by the number of students who settle when they have transitioned to their classroom with their friends and teacher!
Practice taking deep breaths when calm so they can use them when feelings are heightened.
Watch a show together about going to school and talk through it with specifics: the schedule of the day, the characters' feelings, your child's feelings seeing a beloved character experience that discomfort, how they would comfort a classmate/friend experiencing those feelings, etc. - see links below for ideas of episodes to watch!

Minor setbacks are expected after a long weekend, sickness, inconsistent schedule for school, or an extended break.
Revisit these strategies, practicing when their world is calm helps to minimize the intensity of what they may feel.
