Ask any member of the vast, global IB alumni network about their time in high school and they will tell you it was not easy. They will tell you there were times they wanted to quit and nights they did not get enough sleep. There were weekends spent in the library and so many deadlines.
But there was also a community of other students who were driven to learn more, get involved, and make an impact. When IB alumni get to college, join the military, or the work force they find that they are equipped with the self-management skills to deal with set backs, the time-management skills to juggle the variety of responsibilities life throws your way, and the research and critical thinking skills to create new knowledge and form their own opinions based on evidence that they can gather and analyze themselves.
North Meck IB alumni are scattered across the world and are making impacts both locally and globally. We have doctors, lawyers, teachers, Air Force pilots, investment bankers, NGO directors, artists, actors, engineers, tv personalities, and so much more among our humble network. These alumni will tell you that while high school was not easy, it did give them the tools they needed to succeed in college and beyond.
While the IB programme is very much about academics, it is not only about academics. It is about helping students understand their place in the world and their ability to pave their own way. The Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) component exists to encourage students to find their own hobbies and passions and figure out how to become leaders in those fields. The Personal Project and Extended Essay exist to allow students to practice their independence in investigation, thought, and action in areas of both personal and academic interest. These are skills that pay dividends after high school and help students contribute to "a better and more peaceful world". (IB Mission Statement)
