Our Mission: The mission of the North Academy of World Languages’ Student Services Department is to provide a proactive, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate program to address students' academic and career goals in addition to supporting their personal and social needs. This is accomplished through a partnership with parents/guardians, staff, and community members to enable all students to become successful, productive citizens and lifelong learners in a diverse and changing world.
Individual Counseling
Counselors may meet with students for individual counseling sessions. Sessions may be from self referrals, teachers or parents. Students may receive school counseling services up to six sessions on a certain topic/concern before being referred to outside support services. School counselors will work with the parent/guardian if additional supports are needed after individual sessions.
Classroom Lessons
School counselors will visit classrooms to present lessons on a variety of topics. Topics can include lessons in career exploration, friendship skills, anti-bullying, emotional regulation, goal setting and more. Lessons and frequency are based on grade level needs.
Section 504 Coordination
NAWL School Counselors serve as the school’s 504 coordinators. Your child’s assigned school counselor serves as the coordinator for your grade level. Please contact your child’s designated school counselor for any 504 needs or concerns.
Referrals
We are here to help students and families with any outside agency referrals. Please speak to us about your needs and we can work to assist in a referral or lead you in the right direction!
Group Counseling
School Counselors may offer group sessions to students during the year. Small groups may cover a variety of topics based on data and needs from students. Topic examples may include: study skills, grief and loss, self esteem, anger management and coping skills.
Responsive Services
During a crisis, the school counselor intercedes immediately in high risk situations that may greatly impact the student's personal, social, academic, or career development.
McKinney-Vento Coordination- NAWL school counselors serve as the contact for the federal McKinney-Vento Program. This program supports families who have lost their housing. Please contact your child’s assigned school counselor for any questions, concerns and assistance.
