Hi Everyone! I am so excited that I get the opportunity to teach Music at Selwyn Elementary! Go Eagles! The 2024-2025 school year marks my fourteenth year teaching Music. All fourteen years have been at Selwyn Elementary, although the first few years were split teaching between two different schools in CMS.
My love for Music started at a young age and continued to grow when I joined my middle school concert band. I began my musical journey playing the clarinet and added a few extra instruments as I continued in high-school marching and concert band--- the piano, violin, and mellophone. My high-school band director inspired me to pursuse a career in music education. I had the awesome opportunity to attend Appalachian State University and the Hayes School of Music.
I am an alumni of Sigma Alpha Iota-- an International Music Fraternity. I am a current member of NCMEA (North Carolina Music Educators Association) and previous co-chair the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Elementary General Music PLC.
While I was attending Appalachian State University, I met my now-husband, Wess. Wess and I both attended the Hayes School of Music (he played bassoon!). We've been married for 14 years and have one son, Grayson. Grayson will be 11 in August and will be in the 6th grade. It's been such a blessing to have my son attend Selwyn for his elementary years and now he'll be just across the parking lot at A.G. Middle School!
When I'm not teaching Music, I love spending time with my family and our golden-doodle, Captain. He's named after Captain America. I love to design and make jewelry, do hand embroidery and cross stitch (my mom & grandmother passed that on to me!), read, and craft. My family and I LOVE to watch movies and more than likely you'd find us listening to movie soundtracks in the car.
