Recorders

It’s Time for Lansdowne 5th Graders AND 4th Graders to Purchase Recorders and Books for Music Class!

Dear 4th and 5th Grade Parents and Guardians,

We haven’t used recorders here at Lansdowne since before closing the schools for COVID, so I am excited to return to this great inexpensive way to play an instrument! Maybe your child doesn’t love singing but will find that they have a real talent for making music in another way…for middle school band or orchestra and beyond!  Even if they don’t have musical aspirations, playing a musical instrument is one of the very best exercises for the brain. Just watch the video on my Music at Lansdowne Google Site!

I would like to encourage every 4 and 5th Grade student to purchase their own recorder and music book so that they can practice at home and write the notes in their own music, etc. If you are already cringing at the thought of your child playing at home, just be like me...If they are making loud squeaky sounds, tell them to blow “warm, gentle air”. If they don’t fix it quickly, they don’t get to play! (Playing wrong notes may take a little more work.) I will have sanitized recorders here in the Music Room for students who forget to bring theirs, and I have the same kind of recorders and books available for any families who are in a time of financial hardship.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Music & Arts Center has ordered enough stock for all our 4th and 5th graders at their Arboretum Shopping Center location. Their address is 8046 Providence Rd., Charlotte, and their store faces Pineville-Matthews Rd. (Rt. 51). Stop by and pick up a book and recorder for your child in the next few weeks! 5th will start playing them in Music Classes on February 28th.  4th Grade will begin on March 14th.

NOTE: Please tell them that you are from Lansdowne Elementary! They are giving us a great price of $4.49 for the RECORDER EXPRESS Book (48 pages!) and $5.39 for a YAMAHA translucent recorder. (I think the recorders come in 3 colors – blue, green and pink.) That’s a total of $10.60 for both with tax. If you already have a nice recorder at home, you can just purchase the book!

Please send me a note (Parent Square, email, or by hand) if your child will need a book and recorder provided by the school for financial reasons, or if you have any other questions!

 Musically yours,

Mrs. Lana J. Withrow
