Rules and Procedures

General Expectations

Students will come to class prepared to learn each day just as the teacher will be prepared to teach each day. Students will follow all school rules and CMS rules according to the Students Rights and Responsibilities handbook. Generally, my expectations are as follows:

Attendance: Attendance is mandatory and critical to the student’s ability to achieve the course’s objectives. Students are expected to be on time every day for class. If absent, check the absence folder directly upon return, and turn in missed homework the following day.
In Class: Cell phone and headphone use are not allowed in class. They must remain in backpack or at the Charging Station. Additionally, no eating or drinking (except water) is allowed in class.
Participation/Behavior: Students are expected to participate every day during class. This includes but is not limited to casual and formal discussions, group work, projects, Socratic Seminars, and question-answer sessions.
Homework: Homework will be checked at the beginning of class each day. Students are expected to enter the classroom, turn in the homework due, and begin working on the day’s warm-up activity.

Classroom Procedures

Entering the classroom

Retrieve your composition notebook from your class’ designated bin, and turn in any due homework.
Proceed to your assigned seat and sit down.
Silently work on your Do Now, you have 10 minutes.

Coming to attention

Observe my hand raised
Raise your hand in response
Bring your full attention to me
We will move forward when the whole class is silent and tracking me

Leaving the classroom

Silently raise your hand
When called on, ask for permission
If given permission, fill out one of your bathroom/hall passes
Once your pass is completed, go to your destination and return within 4 minutes

Maintaining class binder

When you are given things to store in your binder, store it behind the appropriate tab on top of all previous documents

Asking/answering questions

Raise your hand (unless instructed otherwise)
When you are called on, either respond to the question prompted by me, or ask your question

Labeling work

In the top right corner of your work, write:

Your full name Ms. Lee Block _____ Date (Month DD, YYYY)

All formal papers will be written in MLA format

Making up/turning in late work

Pick up your make up work from the designated bin as you enter the classroom
Turn in late/make up work in the designated basket as you enter classroom

Entering class late

As you enter, silently hand me your pass or place it on my desk without disturbing the class
Continue with procedure for entering the room
You may not enter the class late without a pass

Exiting the classroom

When the bell rings, do not begin packing up until I say so
Once I dismiss you to leave, quickly gather all of your things, leaving nothing behind at your desk or the floor around your desk
Turn in all classwork to the designated basket
Put your notebook in the designated bin as you leave the room

Using the Student Supplies corner

Whenever you need to use something from the Student Supplies corner, always ask for permission
Get or use only what you need, making sure to leave everything else on the table neat and in place
Return any supplies, leaving everything on the table neat and in place

Signing a Chromebook out

Wait for Ms. Lee to call on you
When you are called to get your Chromebook, go to the cart and accurately complete the Google Form
Silently go back to your seat and follow whatever directions are given

Signing a Chromebook back in

Once Ms. Lee gives you permission, go to the cart and plug your Chromebook back into the appropriate slot

EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HANDLING THEIR OWN CHROMEBOOK!
