My name is Katie McDonald, and I am so excited to begin my second year at Sharon!
I earned my Fine Arts degree in Art Education from Appalachian State University and my K–12 NC Teaching License in December of 2023.
During my time at Appalachian State, I was able to explore a wide range of media, including weaving, clay throwing, surface design, and even metalsmithing!
I spent my summers interning with the Mint Museum of Art's Learning and Engagement department, where I led guided tours, developed educational activities for family events, and worked in the Lewis Family Gallery.
I completed my Student Teaching internship at Bailey Middle School, which taught me how to connect with students of all ages through meaningful and engaging art experiences.
I have spent the last year and a half teaching art at Cotswold Elementary, where I taught third, fourth, and fifth grade students.
My hobbies include hiking, visiting museums, drinking lots of coffee, and of course, making art in my free time. My favorite mediums are clay and paint! My dog, Holly, also enjoys hiking and visiting Boone whenever we have the chance.
My dog, Holly
We rescued her as a puppy and she is now 14 years old 💛
This past Spring, I was immensely honored to be featured in CMS People of Excellence. I am a CMS alum and was so excited to share my journey of becoming a teacher.
