Welcome!
Welcome to 8th grade Math! I am Mr. Hilburn and I am looking forward to my 2nd year here at Mountain Island Lake Academy. Feel free to visit the “About Mr. Hilburn” page on my website to learn more about me. Eighth grade is the last year for our students to prepare for high school and I am privileged to be a part helping these students become ready for this upcoming transition.

My greatest expectation is that ALL scholars can improve their math skills regardless of where you are starting from!!!
Grading Policy
All students are expected to maintain an up-to-date notebook at all times. Unannounced spot notebook check grades will be recorded as informal grades. At the end of each unit, students will turn in their notebooks for a unit-wide notebook check which will count as a formal grade in addition to taking a unit test on the topics covered.
Unit tests, major projects, and major tests will count as a formal grade. Pop Quizzes (unannounced), classwork, participation grades, homework and all other assignments will count 1 time in the gradebook as Informal Assignments. Announced quizzes will count as 2 informal grades in the gradebook.
Grading Scale
A – 90-100
B – 80-89
C – 70-79
D – 60-69
F – Below 60
Missed tests and quizzes can be made up during Academic Enrichment class or before/after school (please schedule with me) and they should be made up within 5 days of the absence.
