The STEM(science, tech, engineering, math) for girls speaker is supposed to visit Thur Feb 19 at 3:20-4:20 pm in the media center. This overlaps with our meeting but you girls can go if you let me know. I also asked for the speaker to stop by my room after to see what we do!.

I had an engineer look over the air trajectory design & Varsity bridge. He made comments & suggestions to help us out. It was a learning experience. If Christian can send me some still shots of their JV bridge, I can get comments on their bridge also.

Forms- Forms are a BIG deal! If you can't take the time to complete, get the form signed & return it, then don't expect us to trust you with an EVENT. Yes, the forms are a test!
Get forms from Herrick 702 in the morning before announcements. New students turn in white completed & signed infoform to Herrick to get green teacher recommendation form. Once green form is signed & acceptable, then turn it into Herrick to get 3 event stickies( yellow/new & pink/veteran) along with 3 event rule sheets. You can put your stickies on the event board & move them around if you trade in rules to get a different event. No one is locked in for an event yet( Herrick writes the names in ink)...but Herrick has already been impressed by a few of you by their knowledge of an event& work effort (past & present)this week. Some of you may be asked next week to be locked in in a non-building event!
Event Clarifications are in yellow on the NC web page for each event. Mark each 1 on your rules with it's date & check back frequently.

Start getting on Edmodo & checking your events. Remember that stuff from past year is still on the site. Only post if..you are doing one of our surveys, have something appropriate to contribute about an event, upload cool stuff (quizzlet, video clips, diagrams, vocab, practice quizzes, links) that will help with an event, & ask appropriate questions. Remember, your coaches see & hear everything!

This interactive fair for middle school students and their parents is designed to increase awareness and understanding of the exciting careers available in science, technology, engineering and math. Passport to STEM will be in the Advanced Technology Center at CPCC's Central Campus, where students will have a unique opportunity to visit the state-of-the-art teaching labs, and to talk with representatives from leading companies and local colleges to find out what education is required to have a career in the exciting STEM field.

Welcome to the Mint Hill Middle Science Olympiad Wiki for 2013-14!
Coaches: Herrick & P (Przystanski)
Coaches also helping out with events: Krenn. We are always looking for parents that could help mentor events.
This year, we will have a varsity & JV team of 18 students each. 6th, 7th, & 8th graders with at least a GPA of 2.5 and have good behavior can try out for the team. There are over 20 events that include building, lab, & research events. Students work with a partner & usually do 2-3 events. Students can see Herrick 702 in the morning before homeroom announcements if they have questions or if they need their supplies locked up for the day.
General meetings are Thursdays, 3:30-5:00 pm in Herrick's room 702. Event meetings will be set by coaches/mentors for before or after school once we get to talk to students who want specific events. If you print off a score sheet for 2014 rules for your event & show it to Herrick at the next meeting, you can earn a treat. Herrick usually has Tuesdays 3:30-5:00 pm for building events.
Students must be able to attend 2013-14 Regionals Sat March 8 at UNCC. If we qualify, State Tournament will be Fri/Sat April 25-26 at NCSU in Raleigh. Both events will have middle school "B" & high school "C" teams completing. This is a great opportunity to see what lies ahead for high school along with getting to visit college campuses!
At our first interest meeting was on Thurs Sept 17, students were given an information sheet that Parents & student had to sign off. It was to be turned in by the next meeting. If students let Herrick know of a spelling issue that needs to be fixed on this site, you will get a treat. Students are to set up a notebook for Science Olympiad rules & sheets which should be brought to each meeting.
There was a parent meeting on Thurs Oct 10 from 5:00-6:00 pm after the student meeting from 3:30-5:00 pm in Herrick's room 702.
