10th English
Sophomore English is an exploration of world literature meant to introduce students to a variety of topics of interest, works of literature, and challenges that have shaped our modern world and our identities. Our goal is to create college and career-ready students who engage thoughtfully with our globalized world. This course culminates with a North Carolina End of Course Exam (EOC).
Students in Sophomore English will achieve the following goals:
We will use higher levels of critical thinking skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
We will analyze print and non-print material across world cultures and time periods.
We will craft writing to communicate ideas in a precise, organized, and fluent manner.
We will learn the research process and create research-based products utilizing technology.
We will engage in group discoveries and discussion seminars; learn communication skills by working in teams; and foster public speaking skills via multimedia presentations.
We will use Canvas for our course.
Our primary course text is SpringBoard English II - National Edition.
We will use turnitin.com for the submission of selected assignments, which will be accessed through Canvas.
