Hello Parents,
I want to take to tell you a little bit about my classroom procedures. This is my fourtenn year as a first-grade teacher, I know we are going to have a good year. I appreciate the fact that you trust me with your children, I know they are precious to you as I am the mother of four myself. I take my job very seriously. I want your child to excel and make personal academic progress this year. I also want them to feel good about themselves, have fun and discover a bit more about whom they are so they can become better students.
Concerning discipline, we are using a system of consequences with the color chart and we are also using the school wide reward system. My philosophy is to stress the reward system because I want to keep my students motivated, doing their work and behaving properly. These are our classroom rules and consequences:
1. Have a GOOD Attitude.
2. Listen, be attentive and participate.
3. Remain in your seat.
4. Raise your hand if you want to say something.
CONSEQUENCES
1. Color Green ------- Perfect Behavior
2. Color Yellow ------ Walking ten times around the playground
3. Color Red ------ Office referral (depending on the offense) and note to parents
When your child is breaking the rules repeatedly you will receive a note/or email from me informing you about it and the consequences of his/her behavior. If you want to see your child’s color every day, you may look at our classroom calendar of events. Your child will be responsible for keeping this calendar and coloring his/her color. I will reward the students that are on green on a weekly and monthly basis. I hope you help me by encouraging the children to follow the rules, so we can keep our classroom in good order and with lots of good learning happening.
HOMEWORK
The students will start bringing their binder home on the second or third week of school. This binder should be returned to school every day. In it you will see the songs we are learning, the books or stories we are reading in class, their English reading log and Math homework.
The students should look at their binder every evening, read the songs and the book in French (when we have a good amount of songs and books your child can choose what to read in the evening). It will also include any communication from school or me that you will need to know about. Please make sure you check the binder everyday.
HELP IN THE CLASSROOM
Big thanks for the parent that have already expressed and interest in helping us in the class. Usually the beginning of the week is a great time to help with copies and other things we might have to do. I also know we will need parents to accompany us to the different field trips we have planned. Please make sure to update your volunteer CMS status on their website. You will need to be registered as a volunteer in order to help or come to the field trips.
SNACKS
I want to remind you that your child should bring their own snacks, so far this is working out very well. This is very helpful, especially when it comes to your child’s preferences in what they like to eat and food allergies, everybody bringing their own snacks makes things run smoothly.
TRANSPORTATION
Please make sure that you communicate with me via email, a note or text about any transportation changes for your child on any particular day. You also need to inform the office before 1pm. You can do so by writing an email to:
carbus.sail@cms.k12.nc.us
SICK DAYS
If your child gets sick, you can let me know via email or write me a note. I will pass this note to the secretary, so your child’s absence can be marked as excused. You may also contact the front office directly (by calling or email: attendance.sail@cms.k12.nc.us) and inform them of your child being sick for the day, they will mark the absence as excused.
BIRTHDAYS AND CELEBRATIONS
We love to celebrate birthdays in our classroom, these are special occasions. If you would like to bring treats to the class to celebrate your child’s birthday, please inform me ahead of time. We usually partake of the treats during lunch time. Lunch starts at: 10:35 am. Unfortunately, because of Covid parents will not be able to come for lunch on his/her child's birthday. We will celebrate in the classroom, please contact me to coordinate.
PARENT/TEACHER COMMUNICATIONS
I check my email at least twice a day; please feel free to write me with any questions or concerns. I usually answer very quickly unless is “one of those days”. You can also communicate with via texting, sometimes I can respond very quickly. I will send home a monthly newsletter with information about what we are learning in class and a calendar of events. I will send this newsletter electronically and post it in my website. I am still working on my new website and will let you know when is ready. I will also be using Parent Square to make posts and send messages
I am looking forward to working with you as we partner together to advance your child’s education. I know we will have a great year!!
