The MES Life Skill for September is Courage. Courage shows up when fear is present. Because children are still learning the difference between fear that is meant to keep them safe and fear that motivates them to make good choices, we must be good role models and praise students when they demonstrate courage. We must also recognize times when they struggle to make a good choice and use that time as a learning opportunity. You don't need a cape to have COURAGE. COURAGE is inside all of us, and we can do small acts or large acts of COURAGE every day.
Discussion:
Can you think of everyday situations when you are afraid or scared to do something that you know is good for you or someone else?
For example, standing up when someone isn't being treated good. Refusing to go along with the crowd when the crowd is doing something wrong or dangerous. What about the first day at a new school or admitting you did something wrong even though you might get in trouble?
