The MES Life Skill for October is Responsibility. The earlier children can learn a sense of responsibility, the better. When children become teenagers, it is usually met with unnecessary resistance. By educating children to be responsible in the classroom, it will also help them be responsible at home. When communicating to children about responsibility, it is very important to make clear intentions and expectations. Make sure to use words that are very familiar to children and use more positives than negatives. Focus on the thought process of decision making and learning to see the consequences of a situation before students make a choice.
Discussion:
What is a good choice? What is a bad choice?
Can you think of good choices you make every day?
Can you name some good choices you can make in the classroom? (For example, listening, completing your work, waiting your turn, and sharing.)
