Some professions require a 4-year college degree, with a few requiring it so you can move to the next step (graduate school, law school, dental school or medical school).
There are two types of 4-year degrees. Some colleges may offer both types of degree in the same major.
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) - Your course of study will be broader with emphasis on humanities -- business, social sciences, visual & performing arts, literature & language, for example -- with less math & science emphasis. You may take less courses in your major to make room for exploring other subjects.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Your course of study will be narrower and will generally include more science, math or technology courses. This degree usually means taking more courses in your major and leaves less room for exploring other subjects such as the humanities.
