I am passionate about students and encourage them to adopt an optimistic and dynamic view of learning. I am committed to impacting and maximizing student learning. Before coming to J. H. Gunn I served as the Media Coordinator at Merry Oaks International Academy, Oaklawn Language Academy (magnet program) and Collinswood Language Academy (magnet program). I have been trained as a Lincoln Center International Educator and have served on state committees for dual language implementation as well as the development of the Media Coordinator evaluation. I have worked with the North Carolina Department for Public Instruction "Measures of Student Learning Design Group" for Students Portfolios and Standard 6 development. I was recognized as the Gertrude Coward Media Coordinator of the Year in 2009 within CMS from 167 schools. I have also been named to Who's Who Among American Teachers and have been featured in several online articles -- e-school news with tips and resources to teach digital citizenship and in 2015 was a featured educator for Edutopia. I work collaboratively to design project based learning units which resulted in the Time Warner National Apple Teacher Award (two consecutive years). I have written more than 15 grants to inspire student learning and broaden knowledge.
My favorite quotes: "Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work." --William Arthur Ward (1921-1994) writer
"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." --Aristotle (384-322); philosopher
"That's all a man can hope for during his lifetime - to set an example- and when he is dead, to be an inspiration for history." William McKinley (1843-1901); 25th President of the United States.
"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude to those who have lighted the flame within us." -- Albert Schweitzer
