Clubs & Sports

Do you participate in a club or sport? Your club or sport MAY count as a service as action activity!

The IB has identified several learning outcomes for Service as Action. Through Service as Action, IB learners

  • become more aware of their own strengths and areas for growth;

  • undertake challenges that develop new skills;

  • discuss, evaluate and plan student-initiated activities;

  • persevere in action;

  • work collaboratively with others;

  • develop international-mindedness through global engagement, multilingualism and intercultural understanding; and

  • consider the ethical implications of their actions.

Many of these learning outcomes can be achieved through participation in a club or sport. If you participate in a club or a sport that allows you to meet one or more of the above learning outcomes, you can use that club or sport as an individual choice service as action activity!

How does it work? What do scholars need to do?

If you would like use a club or sport as an individual choice service as action activity, you must do the following:

  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the club or sport by attending regularly over a period of several weeks/months.

  • Be an active, contributing member of the club or team and work to make a difference and be of service to the group or to the community outside of the group.

  • Meet at least one of the service learning outcomes listed above through your participation in the club or sport.

  • Document your participation as service by submitting a Service as Action reflection to your HR teacher's CANVAS PAGE. Click here for more details.
