PARKING PERMIT DISCLAIMER
All drivers and passengers must follow the CMS COVID 19 safety requirements mandated by CMS and Independence HS.
PARENTS & STUDENTS - Please read and understand. Parking on campus is a privilege, not a right.
Transportation is provided for CMS students, therefore student parking is a privilege granted by the school administration. The following acknowledgment serves to document that both parent(s) and student have read, understand, and agree to abide by all Independence High School’s rules and guidelines as detailed in the Independence Parking Policy. TARDY/LATENESS will not be tolerated this year. After your 1st tardy/late you will receive your second verbal warning because you received your first warning when you picked up your pass. On your second tardy/late arrival, your parents will get called. Parent Contact (Teacher will contact parent and document in Educator’s Handbook as a minor incident) – If same week, then a one-day suspension will occur. The 3rd infraction of tardy or late you will have your parking privileges suspended ( 1 week) and so forth. Infractions of school parking rules will result in a $5 fine and/or loss of parking privileges from one day up to the remainder of the school year. PARKING TARDY POLICY
PARKING TARDY VIOLATION/NOTIFICATION Letter
When any vehicle other than the one listed on the application is driven to school, the student must obtain a temporary parking permit or register in advance from the AFJROTC Mobile (219). Temporary permits will only be issued to students who have an existing parking permit to drive an alternate vehicle on a short-term basis (Up to 5 days for maintenance). Vehicles not properly registered or vehicles parked anywhere other than the designated student parking areas will be booted and a payment of $5.00 (fine) or will be required to be registered ($25 registration fee) before the boot is removed or towed at owner's expense.
Note: Replacement stickers will be available for $15 in the event a car is sold and replaced. Remove the old parking sticker before the sale and bring it to AFJROTC (Mobile MC219) with the $15 payment.
REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN AN INDEPENDENCE HIGH SCHOOL PARKING PERMIT:
Copy of NC Driver’s License (provide at assigned permit distribution date)
Copy of Vehicle Registration Card for the car student will be driving (provide at assigned permit distribution date)
Copy of a valid proof of insurance (provide at the assigned permit distribution date)
Students should maintain a minimum weighted cumulative GPA of 2.0 ( Which will be verified by a school official)
No existing financial obligations to the school or fines.
Pay the $25.00 registration fee (see payment guidelines on the "Approved Applications" Tab)
Permit distribution dates will be assigned to students after the applications have been approved.
1. Policy:
Vehicles not properly registered or that are parked in any location other than the designated student parking area will be subject to being booted. Once the car is booted, the $5.00 or $25.00 fine must be paid before the boot will be removed if not properly registered. If a student drives a car other than the car they have registered, they are required to obtain a temporary parking permit to place on the vehicle BEFORE school begins at 7:15 a.m.
Additional Guidelines:
• Leaving campus or visiting your car (during school hours) without proper authorization may result in loss of parking privileges.
Read and understand the PARKING TARDY POLICY
• Student Code of Conduct infractions may result in the loss of parking privileges.
• Student Code of Conduct infractions by passengers may result in the loss of their and your parking privileges (You are responsible for the conduct of your passengers once they are in your vehicle).
• Students falling below the mandated cumulative weighted GPA minimum of 2.0 will forfeit their parking privileges.
• Early release, work release, athletics, and other curricular activities will not have a bearing on whether or not a student receives a parking spot (does not qualify as a hardship request). All appeals must be addressed in an email to Lt Col Jenkins (jeffreyj.jenkins@cms.k12.nc.us) .
• Driving to school is a privilege. Inherent in that privilege is the responsibility to arrive at school on time and attend classes regularly. Students who consistently tardy in the mornings may lose this privilege after six tardies in a semester, and you may lose your parking privileges for 10 or more unexcused absences from a class during the semester.
• Students parking in the teacher’s parking lot or the administration reserved parking/sub parking/visitors parking will be booted and fined and may lose their current or future parking privileges.
• Reckless/unsafe driving, as well as the playing of loud or inappropriate music, and non-compliance of an adult directive while on campus, may result in the loss of parking privileges.
• Students with outstanding tickets or other financial obligations will not be allowed to register until all financial obligations have been settled.
• Students who have lost their driving privileges but choose to still park on campus will be booted or towed at the owner's expense.
2. Obtaining Your Parking Permit:
Please see "Important Dates & Times" for parking distribution dates and location. You must obtain a permit and affix the permit to the car before driving your car to school. Cars without stickers attempting to enter the lot will be turned away. Note: An adult may purchase and receive your parking permit for you on your assigned day if they bring a copy of the student’s NC Driver’s License and current student ID card, current proof of insurance, and current registration.
3. Placement and Display of Parking Permit:
Parking spots will be assigned. Parking permits will be affixed to the left side of the front windshield where it will be visible to administrators and security associates. See the diagram below.
4. Transfer of Permits:
Parking permits are non-transferable and may not be given or sold to any other individual. No student is allowed to purchase a permit for another student or allow another student to use his/her parking permit under any circumstance; if so, disciplinary action and loss of parking privileges will result. If a student obtains a parking permit in any manner other than through the correct application process, the parking decal will be revoked for all parties involved for the remainder of the school year.
5. Approved Student Parking Locations:
Students must park in assigned numbered parking spaces for the entire school year.
