All IB students are required to take a foreign language each year within the program. Students have the option of:
French, Latin, or Spanish
Successful completion of the Language Acquisition requirement in 8th Grade will provide high school course credit (year 1) of the language.
Randolph Middle School believes in providing a variety of experiences for students and offers a wide array of extracurricular activities ranging from philanthropic to leadership, academic to athletic.
Clubs are available to all students yet some may require an application, membership dues, or be limited to certain grade levels.
Students interested in a club should contact the club sponsor as listed on the club webpage.
How to get involved? Clubs will announce meetings via the morning and afternoon announcements. Students and families can also utilize the club website for additional details regarding available clubs. View the website HERE! (This website is updated regularly to demonstrate current club offerings.)
Special Notes about Clubs- the club webpage is kept as up to date as possible. Clubs are not guaranteed from year to year due to staff schedules. Many clubs will begin announcing after Labor Day in the Fall with some Winter/ Springs marketing closer to when they begin meeting.
All students at RMS are assigned a Chromebook (laptop) at the start of the school year. This device is to be used throughout the school day in order to complete materials assigned by classroom teachers. Many of Randolph's classrooms utilize digital textbooks which allow for students to access content at home along with the classroom platforms available in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Such platforms include Google Classroom, Canvas, and the NCedCloud.
Per CMS, students are required to carry a bookbag during transitions with their Chromebook packed away. Due to this requirement, Randolph does not currently assign lockers to students.
For 2019-2020 school year, students are able to take their assigned Chromebook home every day.
Randolph offers multiple CMS sanctioned sports for students to try out for as a 7th or 8th grade student (CMS Policy).
Fall Sports- Cheerleading, Football, Golf, Softball, Volleyball
Winter- Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Cheerleading
Spring- Baseball, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Boys Track, Girls Track
*Students interested in attending a sporting event are required to get a Parent Permission Slip signed in order to stay afterschool. (Randolph sporting events do not require a purchase of ticket.) Most events also have a concession stand available to students and families to purchase snacks during the event.
Students assigned to Randolph must live within the Blue or Green Transportation Zone are provided bus transportation to school. The following are the 3 options available to families:

As an International Baccalaureate student in CMS, all students are required to complete Service as Action activities throughout the school year. Students and families can find information regarding the expectations, procedures, and deadlines on the document above as well as by visiting the RMS Service as Action website.
*The Service as Action program is documented by students through digital forms via the CMS Google Drive system.*
In addition to completing Service as Action activities, 8th grade students are also required to complete the IB Community Project. Through this experience students reflect on areas of interest that are in need of support within our community. Through research, direct/ indirect service, or advocacy, students make a difference in our world. Information regarding the Community Project (from the 2019-2020 school year) can be review in the handbook above as well as found on the RMS Service as Action website.
