Frequently Asked Questions

We receive a number of messages with some great questions. We request that you read the application and the website FAQ as we have tried to address a plethora of issues in these documents.

1. My student only has a permit but will have their license prior to the parking application  deadline (the first day of sticker issue), do we submit a copy of his/her permit?

ANSWER: YES! Please submit an application so that they will get their name on our list. If you wait until after the deadline for application submission they will be waitlisted. JUST REMEMBER, on sticker issue day they HAVE to have their license (we have to receive a copy of it). If they failed their test and are going to retake, we can't save that spot.

2. We will be out of town!!! Can we come early?

ANSWER: No, we do not issue early, but as stated on the application, you may have a parent or guardian drive the car, but we have to have a copy of license, CURRENT proof of insurance and registration in your name.

3. What do you do if an unauthorized car is parked in the parking lot?

ANSWER: If possible, get the license number of the offending vehicle and complete the form at this link: Unauthorized Parking

Then contact an instructor in Room C122 or C124 and they will inform you where to park until your space is available.

4.  “My student is a varsity athlete with a lot of gear and deserves higher priority.”

“My student has to work after school and cannot make it on time via the bus and deserves higher priority.”

“My student picks up his sister/brother and has to provide daycare and deserves higher priority.”

“My student is taking classes at CPCC and deserves higher priority.”

“My student cannot get a bus when staying at the other divorced parent's home and deserves higher priority.”

“My student is the President of a club and deserves higher priority.”

Will these or similar requests be honored?

ANSWER: No. There are many compelling reasons for a parking spot. We do not favor one over the other.

5. We are going to buy a car this summer for our student, what do we do?

ANSWER: Submit an application with the current family car that you have. When you get a new car, "edit" (your original form will not let you submit a new application, but it will let you edit your current application)  your original application so that it reflects the new car, new copy of insurance reflecting that car and current registration in your or parent's shared last name on that car.

6. I bought a new car or my car was totaled after I received a sticker and I need a new one for a new car what do I do?

ANSWER: See Hough Parking Policy Section 17

7. For various reasons(work/carpooling, etc), we rotate cars in our family and need multiple stickers what do we do?

ANSWER: We only issue one sticker for one car per student.

8. My student wrecked their car and will not get a replacement so they are going to have their neighbor drive and use their spot instead, is this okay?

ANSWER: No this is not allowed.

9. My student exceeded six tardies and lost their parking sticker as a result during their senior year; we have no way of getting them to practice or after school events, can they have one more chance?

ANSWER: Unfortunately, no they cannot have another chance. Once they have completed their "Recovery Time" and notify us, we will double-check and then add them to the waitlist.

10. My son/daughter just came back from the school when he/she was supposed to get their sticker but they were told that they owed $40.00 additional dollars in parking tickets, how can this be?

ANSWER: Your son/daughter was fined during the previous year for parking unauthorized at least twice without a sticker. We maintain records on unpaid fines and match cars from previous years with cars attempting to register for a parking spot.

11. What happens if a student attempts to deceive the front office and get a temporary pass for their car when it was actually a friend's car to park in their spot?

ANSWER: They will lose their parking privileges.

12. What happens if a student provides false information on their parking application or registered a friend’s car as if it were their own.

ANSWER: They will lose their parking privileges.

13. I can't drive my student to school, he/she has practice, can you advise us where outside of school grounds can he/she can park then if they can't get a spot at Hough?

ANSWER: Unfortunately we cannot. We would never advise students to park in nearby neighborhoods (many have signs posted that result in towing/ticketing).

14. Why can't students park in the bus parking lot or the teacher's lot?

ANSWER: This would increase the risk of injury by mixing student/bus traffic. Regarding the teacher's lot, we continue to grow as a school which means our faculty/staff continues to grow. In addition, we need to maintain some parking for maintenance and visitors. The district is currently not able to add additional parking areas to Hough.
