AVID stands for (Advancement Via Individual Determination) a college readiness elective class held day during the
school day. It is offered to students who would like to prepare to attend a college or university. The rigorous curriculum
includes writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, note-taking, study skills, test preparation and test taking
skills, college/career/team building activities, college visits and enrichment opportunities. Students participate in AVID
voluntarily. If selected for the AVID elective class, AVID students must:
* Complete required schoolwork
* Maintain an AVID binder
* Good citizenship
* Take rigorous courses
* Good attendance
* Maintain at least 2.0 GPA
* Demonstrate motivation & individual determination
* Take Cornell Focused Notes daily in all classes
* AVID is not an at risk program. It is a program designed to support students who would otherwise not attend a four-year university to attend and to graduate from a four-year school.
* AVID is not for students who don't do classwork or their homework.
* AVID is not for the consistently D or F student.
* AVID is not for unmotivated students. They must have individual determination.
