I have been teaching here in North Carolina and at Morehead STEM Academy since 2005. I have taught several grades from Kindergarten to Eighth. This is my fourth year teaching the AVID program and middle school. I look forward to exposing our students to some of the great experiences and opportunities that are available to them. My goal is to guide our students in the direction that will lead them on their own successful individual paths. I hope to instill into our students that, "Education is Not Preparation for Life, Education is Life Itself." -John Dewey
AVID here at Governor's Village STEM Academy is designed to help our students get a clear understanding of tools required to be successful in their current school and beyond. A key element for AVID it that students take ownership of their learning and advocate for themselves. (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Students are taught organization, public speaking, self advocating and leadership skills in order to be better equipped for college, career and beyond. Students learn how to become organized through binders which are a requirement of the AVID program and GVSA. Students will also learn how to take Cornell & Focused style notes, a skill that can be utilized in all areas and subjects. Our AVID program encourage our students to not only become leaders in the classroom/school but also the community. Students learn how to set long and short term goals and how to create a plan that will help them accomplish these goals.
