School Counselors

What do school counselors do to promote academic achievement?

A school counselor is an educator who promotes academic achievement by working closely with students, parents, and teachers to provide individualized support for students and help identify their academic, social and emotional needs. We advocate for students and help them succeed to the best of their abilities. The school counseling program at GVSA will provide various services to ensure that each student is successful Socially/Emotionally, Academically, and in their future Careers.

These services will include:

  • Classroom Guidance

  • Student Small Groups

  • Individual Counseling

  • Planned School-wide activities

Students often times have issues with bullies, teachers, school work, our parents, family, or even siblings! A counselor's job is to listen to the things you want to talk about and help you handle the problem so you can be the most successful you can be here at school!

When a student comes to see the counselor, they will talk and do activities together. Talking about thoughts, feelings, or even actions can help students better understand themselves and any situation they are going through. Sometimes a student may feel scared or nervous to talk about things and that is OK! We are here to support every students & work together with them and their families to address any obstacle they may face.

Confidentiality Statement

As professional school counselors, we respect the rights of confidentiality. Personal information disclosed during the course of conversations between counselors and students will remain confidential with the exception of students presenting danger to themselves or others and/or the student expresses safety concerns.
