Homework Philosophy and Policy:
Homework is not assigned on a daily basis.
Homework is just for review or completion of what we learned in school.
Students are being prepared for middle school and for taking ownership and responsibility for their own learning.
Students are encouraged to study for tests and reminded of resources available to them to build their skills.
Students are expected to have their assignments completed for math by the next math class. Students that have not come to class prepared with their completed work will have their color changed.
Dreambox and MobyMax are encouraged for use in and out of school to build math skills.
Vocabulary homework is not assigned as we work on the words in class. Vocabulary quizzes will be announced. Quizlet is available to practice at home.
Optional German reading log participation is voluntary and encouraged. Students can receive a prize for their particpation by submitting their completed log at the end of the month.
Aside from any incomplete class assignment, the only other homework that your child might have is what was assigned by their English teacher.
Class Rules:
The class has created the following rules together and has signed their names in agreement with these rules.
Sei immer respektvoll, nett und freundlich. Always be respectful, nice, and friendly.
Melde dich, wenn du sprechen möchtest. Raise your hand if you wish to speak.
Höre zu, wenn andere Personen sprechen. Listen when other people are talking.
Nur gehen, nicht rennen. Only walking, no running.
Folge allen Anweisungen. Follow all directions.
These rules cover a broad span of behaviors. Students have been learning our procedures and routines for both our classroom and Frau Schott's classroom. When students stray from those guidelines, they have likely broken either rule number 1 or number 5.
Individual Rewards and Consequences:
Every child has a clip on our multi-colored pencil hanging chart and they start the day off on green. Green is where your child should aim to remain on a daily basis. Children on green for the week will visit the treasure box on Friday (time permitting - may be postponed to following week, if necessary). Students doing the right thing without being asked or reminded might receive an immediate reward or treat.
Here is the progression after green for each time a child breaks one of the rules stated above:
Yellow --- 2 meditative laps to reflect on their actions
Orange --Silent lunch
Pink --- Parent Contact will be made by phone or email and may result in a referral or a visit to an administrator’s office.
If the consequence could not be given on the same day for some reason, the child will receive that consequence on the following school day.
Class Rewards and Consequences:
The class may be given cotton balls (which are collected in a jar) for good behavior or for receiving compliments from other teachers. Time out for the class will be given if there is too much noise in the line or during instruction after being warned to quiet down.
Student Responsibility: Your child needs to be sure to mark the proper color for the day’s behavior in their agenda.
Parent Responsibility: Please check their folder and agenda daily.
